This is a side effect of industrial revolution. Please educate yourself.
You know, nobody has to make the same mistake twice. Sure it costs money to be environmentally friendly, but nobody has to make the same mistake twice.
Why the invisible hand of course. Nobody can avoid natural market forces.
Well that's a ridiculous statement... the invisible hand was a nice concept for 18th century economic theory, but just didn't work out in the reality of 19th century industrialization when monopolies ran rampant.
The invisible hand nor "market forces" can stifle the concentration of market dominance unless of course your idea of a free market does nothing to protect intellectual property rights.
The U.S. began to do just that with the passage of the Sherman Anti-Trust Act of 1890, followed by the Clayton Antitrust Act of 1914, the Federal Trade Commission of the same year, the Robinson-Patman Act of 1936 and the Celler-Kefauver Act of 1950.
China is not an unregulated free market, but at least they got this part right according to conservatives: they have no environmental restrictions.
All conservatives know that there is no such thing as pollution. Just doesn't exist! It's like global warming and science...kooky liberal "fancy book-learnin" ideas!

so in essence then, this is not a free market.
A true free market would always end up in cronyism, with those with the biggest sticks on top.

A good reason this "free market" idea is purely utopian. Unless you can point me to one running successfully.

So do capitalists. Do you think a corporation is going to give up its profits to implement high standards of pollution regulations on its own? You're right though, that there is a government, but one, that is acting like a corporation.
