For me its when you put your self interest behind a guns interest. I see it in many peoples minds. They would rather see thier kid shot than a gun ban and thats a gun nut.

"Gun Nut" - An individual who indirectly witnesses the murder of innocent children and callously resists even modest background check enhancements due to a completedoctor disregard for the well-being of others.
a gun nut is someone that thinks the government and the police will not take care of him in an emergency. crazy people like this have infested our society for hundreds of years. depending on who is in power they are sometimes called crazy people and sometimes called patriots and warriors and heroes.
"Gun Nut": A person who indirectly witnesses the murder of innocent children, announces he's going to "do something about it", and then tries to put in place programs already found to not work (gun bans, gun show restrictions, gun magazine limits etc.), thus guaranteeing that the trend of mass murders will continue as it has during all the previous tries of these failed ideas.
What do you call someone who blames an inanimate object for the actions of its human operator? Or those who wish to ban something they clearly know nothing about?

Gun nut = Anyone who believes that we can solve the gun violence problem in this country, by adding more guns. I.e., add gasoline to the fire.
Gun nut = those who think they can stop tyranny by owning them.
