Since the disgusting revelation in by the media in NY published the names and google map locations (addresses) of those who legally own firearms, should we now request that anyone who receives public benefits/entitlements have their names and addresses publish for all to see?

These programs specifically

WIC
EBT
Section 8
Medicaid
Medicare
Welfare
Food Stamps

When you decide to take money from the public, it is no longer a privacy matter/issue. You've opted for public assistance, privacy is off the table.

How do you explain the publishing of gun owners who actually complied with unconstitutional laws that required them to register their legally owned gun only to have it used against them and published?

You mean like everyone who is taking a mortgage interest deduction on their taxes, is collecting Social Security or disability, gets a tax break because they are married, etc.? Or are you just advocating that those on welfare, WIC, subsidized housing and the like get outed?

Tax deductions are a different animal, but they are reducing a taxpayers bill. There is someone who is actively earning income that is being taxed. This is usually someone who ultimately pays more taxes than they take in benefits. (But yes, it is unfair)

Welfare, WIC, subsidized housing and other entitlements are what I am specifically talking about, because those can be accessed by someone who contributes no income, GDP, or tax base to society.

Social security is a little different, some people actually self funded their own SS fund to some extent while others did not.

I will clarify in the OP.

Why did the OP omit medicare? If we live long enough we'll all be wards of the State on Medicare.

OK, got it. Then yes, it would be a great idea to publicly humiliate and debase folks that are already down and out. Sure, some are cheating the system, but so are some working tax payers. What earthly purpose would it serve to out them?

No limits on what is subject to publications! All dealings with any level of government, including city, state and federal income taxes should be public - names and address for everything, no P.O. Boxes.

The purpose is to see where and who your money goes to. We just set the precedent for lawful citizen in NY by outing them for no 'earthly purpose'. Since this is public information and should fall under the Freedom of Information Act.

Similarly, we also divulge the information (salary, position, years served, retirement pension, etc) of all public officials since they are paid for by taxpayers.

Being emotional, and claiming they are down and out is subjective. I'd be willing to guess that there are many people living on entitlements just as comfortable as others who don't quite qualify or have the dignity to refuse public benefits.

Let's remove emotion from this debate. They should be thankful to be supported, and we (taxpayers) are the providers and should be given some transparency if other legal citizens "privacy" and are no burden to society are outed as well, simply for a constitutional right.
