Um, you guys missed the petition to the whitehouse to build a "death star" apparantly?
They are getting a lot of joke petitions like this and so increased the threshold.
If you wish for our current and future administrations to have to address petitions requesting we change the name of Florida to Jimmy Buffetania or make dungeons and dragons our official national game.....then by all means cry about how this is some loss of liberty.
Come one, this is just partisan whining, you guys have bigger fish to fry than this.

Makes sense. Too many frivolous petitions being created lately. State secession, building a death star, impeaching a governor? None of which the White House is going to approve. It's a waste of time.
Yeah, every time they don't get what they want, a bunch of tea party whiners circulate yet another petition to secede. Call them on it, and people respond with stuff like "25,000 signatures hardly represent the will of the voters in my state."
I don't blame the White House for raising the bar on the required number of signatories. Those petitions are a nuisance. But like I've said repeatedly on this forum, don't let the door hit you on the butt on your way out. You won't be missed.
