By promoting the very same ideas promoted by the NRA?

If there are roughly 4 million members of the NRA and there are roughly 315 million citizens of the U.S., the entire NRA membership makes up less than 1.5% of the U.S. population. The roughly 20% NRA membership who do not agree with common-sense gun control measures make up less than 0.5% of the U.S. population.

We all learned, after the recent elections, that the NRA doesn't have much political or financial clout with regard to swinging elections in its favor.

So, what's the deal? Why do we (and by "we" I mean "our government leaders") always defer to the NRA before moving forward with any policy decisions? Can someone please explain why we collectively give a **** what NRA leadership thinks about anything, namely gun control?
The NRA as is now been made very clear is not about it's membership but about being a front group for the gun lobby. The NRA wraps itself around defending the 2nd amendment to con people when what they care about is gun sells.

It's those gun manufacturers and sellers backing the NRA, the Republican party, and a fear based insane, and paranoid group of gun nuts that supply the NRA with its passion and influence.

In other words, groups that are in the minority in this nation. No one cares about gun manufacturers or sellers. Very few voters like the current Republican party, and as people become aware of the insanity of some gun nuts the public wont support them either.

Hopefully the Democratic party recognizes the reality of the unpopularity of those in opposition and acts accordingly.

Why should we care what ANY organization has to say? If the issue is NOT one you care about, don't listen to what they have to say.

No one is forcing you.

What's the one issue that you can't budge on? Abortion? Gun control? Drug legalization? The budget?

Most times, these issues don't line up with a single candidate, and when they do, they are lying.
"Because they are single issue voters."
Another stupid assumption.

"No, they really don't have much clout regarding election outcomes" History shows otherwise.

Look up some info on the mid term election during Clinton's Admin after he instituted his so-called Assault Weapon ban.

the NRA is little more than a glorified lobbying group for the firearms industry so I would take anything they say with a grain of salt. the NRA represents the interests of the firearms manufacturers who make money by selling as many guns as possible and they don't care who they sell them to. its all about the money. it is a hugely profitable industry and they will fight tooth and nail and do anything to protect their profits.

How incredibly stupid must a person be to not realize that people are tired of watching bodies carried out of movie theaters, schools, etc.? The victims lose their "unalienable right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" but we`re supposed to shed tears over the shooters` rights.

Grover Norquist, GOP members sign no tax pledge.
Grover Norquist, NRA member.

Grover Norquist | Meet the NRA Leadership

Maybe this is why the GOP is out of touch?

Maybe not all NRA members are not anti-gun law either.

I agree with you. I think gun rights people are as crazy as a soup sandwich and about as sympathetic as piranhas.

How incredibly stupid does a person have to be to not realize that the President's proposed legislation to ban "assault weapons" and high capacity magazines won't do a single thing to stop people from dying? On the other hand, limiting magazine sizes to what the liberals think is "acceptable" may very well mean that more people will be the victims of violent crime.
