How about the debate the premise instead of engaging in ad-hoc

why bother even competing with China?

most of the products from there are junk and fall apart in a couple of months anyway.

Put up tariffs, restrictions and make our own better quality stuff.

ok, it may not be as cheap, but a lot of things we don't need anyway.

We are definitely raising some kids with no backbone. Take my ultra liberal sister and her husband, I can't take my nephew fishing (he is almost 9) because she thinks me throwing a codfish in a cooler may tramitkze him. And she is grooming him not to work till age 18 WTF?

I'd be careful about making assumptions on the quality of their products, they make cheap junk because that is what the the US consumers buys.

Agreed. They export to the USA some junk/cheap products but not all products manufactured in China is bad.

As for the USA competition with China, China is becoming stronger right now. But in the future this may change due to the one child policy which means that there will more old people than young people as well as the fact that there aren't enough young women for the Chinese male population due to the preference of male babies over female ones (which is due to the Chinese culture of the male children looking after the parents while girls were married off and didn't have that responsibility).

wages are going up in China, up to around $200 or so, for a factory worker.(per month)

so if this keeps on happening then maybe it will be better for us? (ie: their products won't be so cheap anymore)

No, actually, the consumer buys the cheap junk because that's about all that's offered for sale any more.

I can certainly see some serious safety issues there.
