The people generally welcomed the Nazis in Germany. The Nazi government didn't have to take guns away from the people.
Salon.com is very biased so not a very good source for The Nazi Government. I have read many books on WWII and The Nazi Government and it would serve you well to do that also. There are many similarities to what our government has been doing since the turn of the century and what took place in Germany before WWII.
People who say it could not happen in America are very naive. I am not paranoid, a prepper, or some right wing extremist, just have a love for reading world history. And I don't belong to either the Democrat or Republican party so I can be honest on how I feel about politics or problems facing our country.
The gun control debate has very little to do about Sandy Hook. That was just the catalyst to get the gun control debate going again. Because if everyone truly cared about the safety of children in our schools the "Gun Free Zones" would be gone immediately even if no one was even armed. It's really easy to understand once you take off your partisan blinders.
Billions of other people. How many billion people live on this Earth and how big a percentage of them do you think even know about the battle over guns that we have because of Sandy Hook? Maybe you need to try to use some less imaginative terms in your descriptions. I am not sure that many of the adults out of our 300+ million really go along with you.
For most of the world, they realize gun regulation is a good thing as most of the world doesn't have the quality of police protection we or other develop countries do.

Having guns didn't stop the Nazi's when they invaded Poland.... or any other European country for that matter and you expect us to believe arming the Jews or German citizens would have stopped the Nazis?
Of course it could happen here in America, anything is possible within the realms our physical laws of nature. But it simply isn't probable

If and when (never say never) a dictatorship comes to the USA it will be the most amazing dictatorship ever seen by mankind. We will use American ingenuity and American "know-how" to create a dictatorship in a very spectacular and very American way. It will look nothing like the dictatorships already mentioned. We won't even know it's a dictatorship until it is thoroughly entrenched and by then nothing will be able to be done about it even if we wanted to which we probably wouldn't.
It also won't look like anything the extreme right would want or anything that the extreme left would want. We will all be suspect but we will choose corporate economic stability over freedom and as someone one already mentioned, the ground work will have been laid in the 20th century. The German people were tired or being at war for the previous 100years or so and Hitler spoke of peace and prosperity for the German people.
The people wanted someone to blame and Hitler pointed out who was at fault, the fact he had the wrong group didn't matter.
