I sometimes get the feeling that these preppers would be disappointed if anarchy didn't ensue. Seems like they are trigger happy and aching for a post apocalyptic show down.

Having visited several prepper forums I would say a significant percentage are indeed hoping for something to happen. That said most of them just have an irrational fear of just about everything which is what makes them such targets of hucksters and con-artists. A fool and his money are soon parted.
You really are clueless. The Y2K hysteria was mostly pushed by right wing talk radio shows while no one on the left was ever worried about "FEMA camps". The whole FEMA Camp nonsense came about post-Katrina and was entirely made up by right wing nutjob conspiracy theorists like Glenn Beck.

fema camps were PRIOR to katrina (2005)...they were from the 80's and 90's and early 00's
I want to know what is the harm in preparedness? Even the government has told us to be prepared for the potential of storms, extended power outages and natural disasters. We have all witnessed right here in our own country riots, huge earthquakes, tornadoes and hurricanes that have left people with nothing. How long has it taken our government to respond? Katrina, Hugo, the Oakland earthquake, hurricane Sandy. In every case it took time before our government came to the aid of victims... Tell me what is so far fetched that in such a stressful time that there could be a period when all you have to rely on is your own preparedness?

Responsible people were already 'preppers'!It took a boob tube to build it into what it is today. Even our government fosters prepping.
Anyone that isn't prepared for disasters, hard times, weather or anything that disrupts everyday life deserves the consequences.
