All you need to get homeless people off the streets are houses to put them in. A truly great idea, from a republican, no less.

The question is, would the GOP run him? If he has an idea like this, he probably has a few more tucked away.

Interesting article and idea. Considering if those stats are true and the state is actually saving money it is hard to be against. I like to know more about it. I would think the state would have some good regs and require some responsibility for classes, training, job, etc.

Again, lets reward the underclass. Drug addicts in our society. Can't hold a job? That is okay, here is a free house!

I guess to be eligible for a free house, I need to quit my job, become a loser drunk, and sign up for the program.

Just sick of how our society rewards sloth and ineptitude.

Better the state stop stealing from its workers and redistributing the loot to the those who dont/wont.
Charity is voluntary, not a govt forced scheme.

I dont see how it matters that the thief who hatched the plot is a dem or gop'er

Much of it isn't adding up to me. First, they are not getting houses, they are getting one room apt's in trade for a portion of their welfare payments.

Second, People who live on the streets year after year use taxpayer resources like shelters, jails, emergency rooms and emergency responses. .

There is no requirement for them to undergo treatments for any addictions. The alcoholic or drug abuser is no longer going to use emergency room care? An ambulance or the police are no longer called when they are found laying on the side of the road?

And, then....is Utah actually saving money or are they simply shifting the costs to others?

Each resident must qualify for one of three federally funded programs

Now I am not dismissing this but I would need far more information and correct information than that has been provided so far. A large portion of the homeless are that way because of addictions and mental illness. I've long said we need to have the discussion about what we are going to do with the countries mental illness problem. I do not believe that putting them in an apt is going to solve that. Giving the alcoholic an apt is not going to make him stop drinking.

??? WhoTF has Section 8? The homeless are mostly childless non-elderly adults - the group LEAST likely to have Section 8. One of the stupider FAILS in this forum.

Housing communities for the homeless.

It's a progressive movement going on in many liberal minded cities.
I guess they are tired of seeing people living under bridges in their gentrified neighborhoods.

Yet..when an area is proposed (as was in Austin Tx) the NIMBY battles start and nothing gets done.
They all want it, just not near their homes.
