Gun control doesn't mean simply laws. The availability of several weapons in this house and the fact that they were apparently unsecured all played a role in these murders.

How do you propose to enforce any type of law eluding to what goes on in people's houses? Random kicking in doors with room by room searches?

There's a series of them in the following article:
Does Owning a Gun Increase or Decrease Safety? Science Answers | Skeptikai

To quote from a review by scholars at the Harvard School of Public Health:

"Scientific studies indicate that the health risk of a gun in the home is greater than the benefit. The evidence is overwhelming for the fact that gun accidents are most likely to occur in homes with guns. There is compelling evidence that a gun in the home is a risk factor for intimidation and for killing women in their homes.

On the benefit side, there are fewer studies, and there is no credible evidence of a deterrent effect of firearms or that a gun in the home reduces the likelihood or severity of injury during an altercation or break-in. Thus, groups such as the American Academy of Pediatrics urge parents not to have guns in the home."

There is also an increased risk that a homeowner will die of a homicide in the home if the home contains guns.

How about gun owners take some responsibility for themselves and for their families and store their guns safely, and perhaps remove guns from the home if they have an emotionally troubled teenager? I'm sure that we will find once again that this teenager showed signs of problems. Not everything has to be done by the government for you. It is time individual gun owners stepped up to the plate to reduce gun violence.

Gun owners, at least the ones on CD argue that they take utmost safety precautions with their guns. But the headlines indicate otherwise.

First off the overwhelming majority of gun owners are not gun nuts. They don't think they are going to fight a tyrannical government. They wouldnt see registrastion as a prelude to confiscation. Those gun owners will follow the law.

For the gun nuts, many may not follow the law but the idea that the federal government would have zero way to trace purchased guns that aren't registered is more fantasy thinking.

If the federal government in concert with local and state government wanted to devote the resources to tracking down all unregistered guns it could be done.

Those gun nuts once proven to be violating the law would hopefully have every gun taken, but either way they'd face the legal consequences and lord help the ones that turned violent.

Not even close. New Mexico is a very "blue" state. Nevada is FAR more libertarian leaning than New Mexico, and I wouldn't think that Nevada is the "most" libertarian - I would think that honor would probably go to Wyoming, or maybe Montana.

Let's restrict guns like they do in Chicago? Chicago, where more people were murdered in 2012, in that one city, then soldiers died fighting the war in Afghanistan.

Chicago Homicides Outnumber U.S. Troop Killings In Afghanistan

Like coming up with gun laws that would stop the gun murders in Chicago. Point being, gun laws are useless when the criminals have no intentions of obeying them.
