You know what really scares me though? That these right wing nutjobs think Clinton, Obama, etc. are commies. One has got to be one helluva little fascist to think that.

what are you bableing about? Left vs right? Farmers getting money from the Gov? You know the majority of the Farm Bill is funding for foodstamps right? And by and large big farm states like Minnesota and Iowa are very left leaning? WHat is your point other than to troll for an argument?

The US is not a right wing country, it's one of the few centrist ones there is. You cannot extrapolate a country's political leanings by social issues alone, you have to take economics into account, and the US is center-left economically with a full fledged welfare state (that is lower funded per capita than western European nations, though).

I would say America is a little Right of center, but that's changing. America is starting to move leftward. How far, that's anyone's guess.

Wrong. 2/3 of farm subsidies go to the richest (mega-corporate) farms. These are distributed not with regard to the NEED of the farmer, but as to the CROP GROWN.

Where are you getting this thing about the majority of farm welfare consisting of food stamps? In fact, welfare goes to the richest corporations in this country. I can tell you how, but you'd scoff at it out of anger that you're wrong.

The U.S. has always been at least centrist to left ever since FDR. The GOP and the modern Democrats haven't succeeded in ripping apart FDR's legacy just yet

Till recently I would have described America as a center-right country. With the reelection of Obama I'd say we've moved to the left of center.

Which tells you one thing. The US was never a center-right country, and the illusion of the love of the rich only lasts when most people think they are in it with them. When reality comes home, that's when the US magically transforms into a center-left country (which is always has been since FDR, and only recently since Reagan has gone centrist)

Don't think you can show however, how they favor taking property from people who produce to hand over to those who do nothing but consume. Don't think you can show how they favor giving up their means of protecting themselves and their families.

Certainly would be interested in seeing data that showed that.
neither one of those last things are liberal ideology.

Liberals favor liberty and freedom too. Americans also favor the social safety net. Taxing those who have done very well to support those in need makes us an overall richer nation. Or, perhaps you want to live make america like Dickens' England?

As President Obama said yesterday, “the commitments we make to each other — through Medicare, and Medicaid, and Social Security — these things do not sap our initiative; they strengthen us. They do not make us a nation of takers; they free us to take the risks that make this country great.”
