I know many Occupiers and I've noticed privilege theory is like a religion to many of them. It's very much an us vs them mentality and has a lot in common, I think with Christianity and anti-semitism.
White males are the 'problem', they are inherently born with sin and told to recognize and renounce their privilege. Privilege theory totally ignores the fact your sex and race are just two of many elements that determine how privileged you are.
sounds interesting - but what point are you making here exactly?
are you pro or anti occupy and white males?
I"m gonna read that article now
I supported Occupy but I think they're squandered any possible success at their obsession with white male privilege. I think privilege theory has some merit but there is way too much focus on white males vs everyone else.

Pshh. A good number of the American occupy protesters are privileged themselves and white. I need to read the article, but everything I have read and seen so far doesn't really pass the sniff test. The way my gf explained it was that white people go through life less aware of race than non white people and unless you are non white you aren't going to experience racism. I don't see how there is any male privilege though. The privilege of fighting in war, dying on the job, of paying more for drinks, dying earlier, and of paying more during the dating process are all things most men would give up.

Even when it comes to rape, that's only true outside of prison. It seems like nobody cares about men who are raped in prison, because they assume they deserve it anyways for breaking the law.
Not only that but even though men are raped and harassed less than women (outside of prison), they are not supported as much when it does happen to them.
I think being a minority anywhere will make you prone to being victim to racism .. I mean try living in Japan as a white person.
that's true, and if you live in any country of color as a white person, you'll be on the receiving end of racism yourself. (unless you can hide behind money)
it's a two way street
