Y'all just about have me wanting to register Libertarian, but I would like to see it discussed in a free-for-all thread first. That way I can see it from all angles.

I wasn't really sure what you were asking, so here's my view of libertarianism.

Civil liberties and rights for all.
Little government intrusion into personal lives.
Legal drugs, abortion, with programs in place to minimize their use.
Legal, regulated prostitution.
Marriage is between people with no state involvement. If people want marriage to be a business contract then let them draw up their own contract.
High quality education for all.
Private property rights are respected.
Free-thought and ideas are encouraged as apposed to any particular ideology.

Here's my view: adherence to the non-aggression principle.

Regulating and taxing do not go together with libertarianism. Neither does high quality education for all unless you mean that from liberty such an ideal can actually be attained.

I'd register then vote with a libertarian/center right candidate lean. So you'd mostly see me supporting libertarian candidates, but If a center right candidate has a better chance of winning, they would be options, too.

I see the right and left as both having problems, the left is just a little worse.

I don't support abortion, but perhaps the best way to minimalize the practice of it would be to cut regulations on it. Maybe we could get rid of drug-free zones, allowing schools to give birth control, which I can stomach better than abortion. We shouldn't subsidize it, though, as saving $9 per month on BC would cost $1000 more per taxpayer. This point on the platform is the one I'm the most iffy about, but willing to try.

I don't particularly like drugs (I take so many by prescription, I'm sick of them), but I still strongly support the end of prohibition. Marihuana isn't as horrible as I was led to believe in my youth, as I learned by observing countries that already legalized it and reading studies published by independent researchers. I believe legalization would take power away from drug lords, empty prisons, and save a whole lot of money. Imagine all the jobs that would be created if drugs were taken to the mainstream free market! Those addicted to drugs already would benefit from lower prices due to competition.

Government probably should get out of marriage. The best way to get rid of the vulgar strain of homosexuals is to give what they and the other less vulgar ones what they want: rights and deregulation. This should save a little money, also.

Social Security should be partially privatized for those currently 50 and older (They get grandfathered in since they have paid into it so long, but since cuts would still need to be made, a transfer to private plans would be advised. As the elderly slowly live out their lives, taxes could be gradually reduced on top of the immediate tax cuts from other program cuts.), and it should be completely privatized for the young. Other programs, like welfare, medicare, and medicaid, would be completely privatized from the start. Unlike social security, which would be allowed to be for profit, other social programs would be given to nonprofit organizations and religious institutions. Obamacare should be repealed.

Defense spending should be cut to about a fourth of what it is now. We are not the world's policeman and we are not fighting soviets anymore. We really need to focus on defending ourselves and a few key allies. Currently 700 billion is spent on defense, wouldn't 175 billion be enough to keep our borders secure and still be somewhat potent in the world?

I'd deregulate education in ways that would allow teachers to do their best. No quotas and no set curriculums. There would be just the principal's judgement, the teacher's discretion, and the students' access to the knowledge needed to be successful, competitive, and happy.

End corporate welfare: if you can't run a bussiness, why should you stay in bussiness? Someone better will take your place. Corporate welfare wastes money and keeps newer, small-to-medium sized businesses from coming to the surface.

NASA budget should be raised from the current $1 billion to $1.5 billion. They give us knowledge, and knowledge is power. This is the only program where a slight increase in spending might be justifiable. The technology from a decent space program could be introduced to the free market.

The FDA needs to be cut back. Those farm raids are horrific and costly.
