Apparently bullying is not OK in schools anymore unless you have a piece of paper that is shaped somehow like a gun. I guess the letter L will be banned from classrooms soon. Wait there was a deaf boy a while back who's sign name resembled a gun and the school wanted him to change his name. What kind of insanity has taken over? Liberals is what kind.
A Philadelphia fifth grader was admonished by school officials and called "murderer" by classmates for bringing a piece of paper that looked like a gun to school.
Melody Valentin was searched by a school official in front of Newlin Fell Elementary School classmates last week, she told Fox 29 in Philadelphia.
"He yelled at me and said I shouldn't have brought the gun to school and I kept telling him it was a paper gun but he wouldn't listen," Melody said.
But, we should pay our teachers more and give them the best benefits in the country because of their great show of common sense we see on here at least weekly!
It appears you don't mind adults yelling at your 5th grader for having a piece of paper in school. Somehow I'm not surprised.
Stop being obtuse. She didn't have a piece of paper, she had an object made out of paper that caused a distraction. She knew she shouldn't have the object, which is why she immediately threw it away when another student saw it. If one of my kids took a toy gun to school: whether made of paper, plastic, metal or whittled out of cheese, I would be fine with his/her teacher scolding him/her in front of the class.
It's a piece of paper. That is why you are lost........in Houston no less. Google map it.
And if she had rolled it into a pretend cigarette or joint and a teacher scolded her... would you still be crying about it? Get a grip, she was scolded and the school day went on.

I guess there'll never be a stupid abuse of power that won't be supported by some people. A scolding in front of the class is bad enough, but the school official also allegedly searched her and told her she could be arrested. Is the whackiness so extreme that it's ok to treat a 10, 11-year-old that way.

Maybe it was a way of legitimizing touching a child
Ok, what did they do to search her? There are no details given... just the parent claiming she was searched. Search could be anything from asking her to empty her pockets to given a full cavity search. I can't say whether I'm bothered by the search until I know what it was. Again, all we are going on is an account from the parent and child that is light on the details.
