I haven't had a cigarette since 1/1/79,
but I will never give up pipes and cigars.
I've put away a lifetime supply.
I don't care if I'm "addicted" or not,
but if I go days without smoking, I
do not experience any cravings.
If you were ever addicted to a substance, you always will be. You might be inactive, you might be recovering, but you will always be an addict.
Nope, can't stand alcohol now, don't like beer, wine, and certainly not the hard stuff I used to drink. I have had a few sips of wine on occasion, but just don't like it. So what they say about alcoholics isn't true for all of us.
My point is that I am not a victim and don't like the victimology arguments people use. We make choices and either accept that or make different choices. We steer our own ship and accept responsiblity for our own decisions.
You probably enjoy the first smoke of the day...
the one you have with the fresh brewed black coffee and maybe something sweet...
And you probably enjoy another one too...
maybe the one when you go outside after dinner and wait for the dog to pee.
The other 20 or 30?
I doubt you even remember them.
Relieves stress. Provides for an excuse to take a break from an activity, which is time to think about the activity being undertaken. I used to paint, and having a smoke was a way to step away from the easel and think about what I've done and what comes next. People that don't smoke don't get breaks. They may eat instead.
Flavor does matter and brands makes a big difference in whether I can enjoy that smoke or not. If you limit my choices, I would indulge less.
Like if we could only have non-fat ice cream.

You make a choice to use the first time. Addicts do not have a choice. The substance they are addicted to takes away their choice.
You may have been a drinker, but if you could drink and quit at will you were never an alcoholic. Alcoholics cannot quit. They are addicts.

I didn't just will it to happen, I hit bottom and reached out for help. I did a month in rehab, but that wasn't the cure, it got me headed in the right direction. I took it from there and eventually stopped altogether. That was 30 years ago or so. I recall smoking a lot of pot, and that's when I picked up my addiction to coffee. Not a bad exchange.
I won't go back to Oregon until I can pump my own gas.
I don't understand how some states still allow this.... The gas station industry must have a wealty lobby... They can afford one with the markup on gas

Actually the cost has little to no effect on the cost of gas. I remember a number of times where it was the same price or lower than other states.

I know right, don't you just hate a state that employs people.
