"1984" and Orwell's other work "Animal Farm" were mandatory reading with most high school students - we covered them in 9th and 10th grade. That was the dark ages of the mid '70's. My kids had to read them, but that was several years ago (pre-Obama). I don't know if they're on the curriculum now.

Was this one covered? Doomsday prepper: Those of us who have an interest in learning the old arts of self sufficiency so we will be able to take care of ourselves without society/government/technology. In other words, "paranoid crackpots".

Another one: Freedom from religion. It means you are not allowed to practice or express or display your Christian religion publicly so as not to offend others of other faiths (i.e. Muslim) and atheists.

The modern world has become saturated with New Speak and Double Speak

Enhanced Interrogation Techniques: torture
Preemptive Strike: unprovoked attack
Security Forces: Soldiers
Undocumented Worker: Illegal Immigrant
Assault Weapon: gun
Terrorist: You
Shared Sacrifice: Tax Increases
Immigration Reform: Amnesty
Linked to Al Qaeda: Anybody
Economic Slowdown: Recession
Prolonged Recession: Depression
Borrow Money: Print Money with Interest

There is an endless number. Orwell should have played the horses.

The GDP didn't shrink the last quarter of 2012 - it had a temporary growth pause.

"Deficit reduction" - Cut everyone else's programs but don't touch MINE!!!

"47%" - anyone who works for a living or is retired and has achieved the otherwise conservative nirvana of not pay any income taxes.

"American culture (or heritage)" - Descendant of northern European immigrants from the 1700's -1900's culture (or heritage).

"Job Creator" - Profiteer, industrialist, capitalist, off-shore investor.

"The 2nd amendment protects against government tyranny" - The unrestricted right to kill police officers, bus drivers, 1st graders, black teenagers, and anyone else you think is a threat based on your prejudices, suspicions, or mental instability.
