I do not see the big deal of having the law in place or the fact it was passed. It is what it is.
So what if English was the official language? The proponents never had any interest in learning another language or interacting with those who did to begin with. What made the county government put the effort in translating to other languages in the first place?
One small problem chaps, Americans do not speak English you speak American, it certainly cannot be English with spelling that atrocious.
Now being a bunch of colonial rebels have you asked Her Majesty if you can use her English
Why English, why not Spanish with all the Hispanics going home to the USA ?

It is still English, however. Spelling has nothing to do with it. It is about communicating in English.
Why English? Because that has been our national de facto language since this country's founding. Hispanics going home to the USA? WTH does that mean? You mean Mexicans who no longer own any part of this country and that their country is south of our border? The USA is not the home of Mexicans.

PC along with illegal immigration did that. We are bound to be PC no matter how much it costs to print government documents in other languages. Just more wasteful spending on the part of all of our governments all in the name of PC.
Why should we welcome people that don't belong here? Its time to make English the National official language.
Unnecessary do-nothing grandstanding.
But that seems to be the worth of Republican's these days.
It's a shame that the party has sunk so low that they make worthless symbolism a solution.
So back to the original question:
Do I think "government business" should be done in English - Yes (but summary translations should be available)
Do we need a official language - No
85% of them come from countries where Enlish is not spoken.
30+ Million LEGAL Americans speak Spanish as a first language and many more are able to use it as a second language.
In the real world, being fluent in 3 languages are a business necessity. English, Chinese and Spanish.
A understanding of German or French is also a good thing.
I am glad I grew up knowing how to communicate in multiple languages, rather the just being the loudest in the room.

Sorry no, English is the language of business across the world. If you move to a foreign country or are planning a job in tourism that would be the only reason that one should learn a foreign language. It should never be forced on Americans in their own country. It should be elective. But with the constant flow of illegal immigrants across our southern border Spanish is being forced on us. You can hardly get a job in this country anymore unless you can speak both English and Spanish. Most Hispanic Americans know how to speak English so why would we need to learn Spanish to communicate with them?

So our national de facto language is a worthless symbolism to you? I don't think most Americans would agree. Why should we offer translations in other languages for other documents at our expense? English as our official language would remove that expense.
English deserves its rightful place as official because it is a part of our identifying culture. If you think that only Republicans think that way then you aren't dealing in reality.
