People don't like that all our jobs moved to China but that's not really their fault, more like greed here.

But they have a lot to answer for regarding all the wild animals they kill and eat or use for natural viagra.

Just randomly watching TV last night I heard a guy, a comedian basically who also just did a nature based documentary tell two stories about his trip. he wasn't telling them in outrage, more ha ha those Chinese but I was outraged but not surprised.

One restaurant had a wide variety of wild animals on the menu - including an OWL
A guide who took him down the river to see monkeys told him a story about how some Chinese tourists were very taken with the fact that these monkeys have perpetual e - r -e c - t- i - o n - s. From the leaves they eat apparently. They insisted on gathering and chowing on the leaves even though the guide told them they would get sick, which they did. I'm pretty sure based on past and current behavior had it been the last living monkey of its kind and they thought it would do something for them they would have skinned it alive and eaten it on the spot.
They are heavily involved in the poaching trades all over the world for bear gallbladders, rhino horn, ivory etc.
And they just cook and skin animals alive - ZERO COMPASSION for anything but their stomachs and
h a r d o n s
While I try to buy American to support jobs here I more try to buy anything not Chinese. A t-shirt made in Romania vs. China - I'll buy the one from Romania or wherever.

Its not like I don't know that there are problems everywhere including the US when it comes to protecting the environment and nature but the Chinese, Asia are just the worst. Skinning dogs aline I mean its just beyond understanding.

These are just a couple of articles I noticed yesterday. I'm not even looking!

I think all the Asian countries also eat cats and dogs and go so far as families with children choosing their cat from a cage in a restaurant before it is lifted out with a noose and dropped alive into boiling water. They think the beauty and character of the animal enhances them. Apparently, their belief leaves out the terror and pain the animal experiences.

It depends which species of owl, is it endangered? What is "fit" to eat or to be used for medicinal puproses is culturally defined. We don't eat horses or dog here, but other cultures will, so be it. I do agree with the cruelty part. Any cruelty is unnecessary.

Throwing lobsters into a boiling vat isn't cruel? As far as killing wild animals, have you not heard of the 18th and 19th century being called the "Age of Extinction" here in America? Humans are not known for seeing the big picture when money or land is involved.

Yeah I'm sick of hearing about people Chinese eating any animal, no matter how endangered, for 'medicinal' properties. I guess entrenched attitudes die hard, so unfortunately the poaching will continue for awhile yet to come. Strict penalties and vigilant border control and, most importantly cooperative authorities is the best thing to do for now.

It's a bit hard to boycott all Chinese products - the MacBook I'm using now was made in China, as are the clothes on my back. You can't really generalise all Chinese as being like this, because this is probably a small if sizable minority.

I really don't think this is the minority. I realize you can't get away from all Chinese products but we do have some choices if you pay attention. I do. And I make those choices when I can. What is more important to you, supporting a country that treats animals like this or a love fashion X, brand X?

I think the biggest weapon we can employ to support nature, animals, anti-cruelty is our moral outrage and judgement of this part of Chinese culture. Countries respond to negative world opinion.

I don't eat lobster. And yes I said I know that even the US has issues with protecting endangered animals as well as how we treat our pets etc.

Not that I'm condoning how the animals are killed in China or elsewhere, but it's not hard to see where part of that indifference toward animal suffering comes from when people still living today remembers the widespread famine couple of decades ago and know family members and friends who died from the famine. People ate ANYTHING back then in order to survive. The thing is, now that period is long behind them, they forget that the food list from the animal kingdom is limited to beef, fish, lamb, duck, chicken, pork, shell fish and if you're a hunter or just hickish: deer and an occasional scrawny smoked squirrel like your typical wealthy industrialized countrymen.

I think Asians (not only the Chinese) have elevated animal cruelty to new levels. Slicing off the fins of sharks and dropping them back into the ocean to drown, keeping bears captive with drains surgically implanted in their gall bladder to extract their gall, the lust for elephant tusks, rhinoceros horns, tiger bones, ad naseum.

I recall reading how one visitor to China was served a lobster that was cut up alive and served raw - the diner joked about how the lobster was looking at him as he was eating it. What the heck is wrong with people??

We are not the world's food police. Not much anyone can do about eating habits in China unless you are in their government.
