why they need them for their employees personal defense. we the little people are not allowed to use those kind of firearms for our personal defense, but get into homland security and you can get 1 for yourself. maybe even with some of the 1.4 billion rounds they bought last year.
What would you instead arm our border patrol agents with? Maybe one of these:
I'm asking this question because it seems either nobody wants to answer it or they can't. Think about this for a minute. DHS put out a new contract for bid to build a new, lightweight, easily concealable assault rifle. Why? The ONLY reason for concealing an assault rifle is for the element of surprise. Who do they plan on surprising? You're not going into a foreign country with an assault rifle under your jacket to wage war, you aren't protecting anything with a concealed weapon, you would want that out in the open as a show of force. The only reason? To use the element of surprise on American citizens.
Remember when Reagan got shot? No guns were visible and then when the sound of gun fire was heard, all the compact automatic weapons came out from underneath jackets.

It is possible to get a licence for a full-automatic assault weapon. Go get one.

well, they did have those beanbag guns for a while to defend themselves.
it's all nuts.
the government announces gun control measures, and gun sales rise. (naturally)
what i find interesting is that the government decides right then that it needs to "divest" the pension funds of gun stocks-while simultaneously buying lots of guns and lots of ammo.
Border Patrol, Coast Guard, ICE, etc, etc. Actually 7000 rifles is not that many.
Coast Guard gets their weapons from DoD.
They are considered a military branch even in peacetime with special privileges for operating on US shores.
DHS took them over from the Dept of Transportation (peacetime mission), not the Dept of the Navy.
