Oh but it's just to get the teachers and students "used to hearing gun shots"
What's next..fake blood and bodies lying in the hallways ?
Way to traumatize kids that's for sure.

Cary Grove Drill To Include Shooting Blanks In Hallways « CBS Chicago
According to a letter from Cary-Grove High School principal Jay Sargeant, there will be a code red drill at the school on Wednesday.

It will include somebody shooting blanks from a gun in the hallway “in an effort to provide our teachers and students some familiarity with the sound of gunfire.”

“If you need to run a drill, you run a drill,” she told WBBM Newsradio’s Bernie Tafoya. “They run fire drills all the time, but they don’t run up and down the hallway with a flamethrower.”

Id say it would be better to set up a shooting range somewhere on school grounds and train the staff and "The Children"

But this is in Chicago where it's likely none of them have ever heard gunfire or even seen a real gun up close unless it was strapped to a cop
