My district is going to have a special election because our former congressman Jesse Jackson Jr left (and likely to face corruption charges). Basically most of the people running are extreme left wing nut jobs who shouldn't be in power. One person running is someone who was the congressperson from the district. Only she is more moderate and endorsed by the NRA. She is a Democrat btw but a sane one.

Anyway they have been running ads attacking her because she is NRA endorses. I googled the name Independence USA Pac I found out that nutjob Michael Bloomberg is behind it.

Welcome to the world where money equals free speech. You guys wanted to open this can of worms, don't whine when it bites you in the butt. Super PACs should be illegal.

Essentially, little-man Bloomberg and his PAC are probably quite small concerns for Illinois gun owners, at least in the big picture.

From what I've seen thus far, it's the sociopathic governor, state legislative body and certain local urban mayors that Illinoisans should be the most worried about.

Good luck, guys.

Exactly. Get rid of Super Pacs altogether.

What happened to the guy who was caught with a .25 pistol at the airport? Is he still in the race? I'm guessing that would be Bloomberg's choice.

That guy is out of the race but hypocritical anti gun politicians are common here. I am opposed to Citizens United btw.

I hope the moderate wins. As a Democrat, I want to see the party right in the center.

Illinois and a sociopathic governor seem to be synonymous anymore, don't they? (I can say that.. I USED to be a resident.)

It's been that way in Illinois for a long time. I remember as a kid growing up in IL, there was a sec'y of state who died in his Springfield hotel suite (basically his apartment where he lived). In the closet he had $800,000 in cash, and no one knew what it was for or where it was from.

For a long time IL got away with these due to other advantages--strong higher education, both pub and private--U of I, U of Chgo, Northwestern, IIT, etc. And a strong and diverse economy & entrepeneurship, going back to the days of McCormick. But now I think some of it is finally catching up, and the state is running into problems.
