The "Counter narrative" has been very popular for a long time. They even tried to counter the holocaust deniers BEFORE they existed.

The internet (and 24 hour media) does give a little bit more voice to the absurdities of the counter narrative.

Too me, its a little bit like religious theories and debates. As long as we as a people don't have to pay extra (i.e. lets open up a federal funded sandy truth study), I guess these things aren't usually that damaging. Sandy has had some pretty negative impacts (such as harassment of families or bystanders).

Human beings still believe the earth is 5,000 year old. If human beings can believe that. . .do you really think we could solve the counter narratives? I think medias stance is overall the right one (ignore). . though I have a hard time biting my tongue.

Don't feed the trolls.

The "9/11 truthers", "Birthers", and now the "Sandy Hook Truthers" are all equally as crazy, but they're still garnering attention from all over the place. My question is do we think this will become the new normal? Will each president have well-advertised conspiracy theories to go along with their terms as president?

Also, if this is going to be the new norm, what's the reason? Are people really losing their minds, are they just bitter about the opposite party winning and need to justify it by crediting something sinister...or is it both?

Maybe feeding the trolls, but I looked at ATS and its run by the "Above Network". .quick check gets me to Willam Irvine a entrepreneurial type dude in Scottsdale Arizona. So i'm not sure where the military connection is or is this made up?

Or is this the common stance to make any opinion part of the "issue" or the against. i.e. CNN run by the CIA, Snopes is george sorros or the CIA (depending on the issue)

I would say that perfectly explains the counter narrative. No real conspiracy. . .just a lot of people cherry picking and assembling fraudulent claims and misrepresentations to attempt to appeal to human fallacies and establish a counter narrative or view that better fits their perception of reality.

I did some searching last year about social security, it's origins, history, etc..
Did you know that when SS was talked about and eventually signed into law, people back then were yelling that it was the first step in America towards socialism? When medicare was signed into law, people said the same thing too.

Times might have changed but people sure haven't, they still buy into this conspiracy stuff. All it takes is a rumor, and propaganda to get the wheels in motion.

When I was in the military, one of the very first things servicemen and women are warned about, and educated upon, is rumors and propaganda. And how not to believe most of it.

Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Me and my buddies, along with Jack Daniels used to sit around hypothesize about the outing of this recon aircraft. We all thought wow, Mach 3, unreal!
Then we really got into conspiracies! What? they've had the SR-71 since 1962 ???!!!!

Hey, if the Air Force has had this since 1962, what else have they got, that they're not telling anyone about???!!!!
And, what about all those UFO sightings? Ah Ha, they're not UFO's, it's the Air Force trying out cutting edge aircraft! Whoa!

To modify a line from the movie Super Troopers:

"Military technology conspiracy theories are cheeky and fun! Massacre/Terrorist conspiracy theories are cruel and tragic."

Birth certificate conspiracy theories are just...the Club Dread of conspiracy theories.

You mean Gabriel Giffords is a Kenyan Muslim too?

Whither it is the same part of the brain or not someone who is not blinded by hatred would want to see some sort of proof before they believe the worst. That people filled with hatred automatically believe what ever reaffirms their hatred even if there is not only no proof but plenty of proof for the exact opposite just goes to show how over over powering and truly blind their hatred really is. It is a integral part of many conspiracy theories and generally a sign of a chaotic, illogical, and weak mind.
