Guns may be used for:
- Harvesting food. During the recession of the early 80's my family ate meat only because of hunting.
- Protection from wild animals. When I was a teen I shot a cottonmouth with a .22LR. It was reared back to strike at my dog when I fired. And NO, I do NOT kill snakes just because they are snakes.
- Protection from criminals. My mother is 5'2" and physically no match for a larger man. She works as a bookkeeper and frequently carries bags of cash to a bank drop box late at night.
- Entertainment. Competitive gun sports is a rapidly growing industry. An AR-15 is a very accurate light-recoil weapon that is fun to plink with. Even President Obama claims to enjoy "frequent" skeet shooting.
- Protection from Tyrants. No, I'm not talking about Obama here (if he were truly a tyrant, Fox would have long been shut down because all the blowhards who work there would be dead). I'm talking about how one of the reasons given by the Japanese for not invading the US was because a large percentage of the population was armed. About how Switzerland, smack in the middle of Italy, Austria, Germany, and France, was allowed to remain "neutral" during both World Wars because every Swiss male citizen is an armed member of the state militia.

Huh? The Japanese had just knocked out the American Pacific Fleet I doubt they were too worried about an armed populace. They didn't invade mostly because we have a great natural defense system call the Pacific, Atlantic, and Gulf Of Mexico.
I am glad I bought my blacksmiths forge last year, I will never be unarmed. I have the means to make both guns and knives with my small shop and forge equipment. as long as there is metal or iron ore to be found I will have a means to arm and defend myself.
