That would only be sobering to someone who has slept under a rock for the last 40 years....

True, BUT, with the white noise of the day pictures often reemphasized the ugly truth of the day.

To many people are in denial of the trends of the day.

What else is new? I'm sorry but old ass pictures of disasters don't pull my strings. Let's focus on stopping current and future disasters and wake the hell up.

I have no bars on my windows. Sometimes I do not even lock the doors. I've never been searched entering my kids school. Yes, we need to deal with the TSA and are. They are getting rid of the naked scanners.

i never understood the expression "land of the free". US has slightly better speech and gun laws than other countries, but is more restrictive in a lot of areas as well. not bashing your country, i'm rather indifferent to it. just find american exceptionalism peculiar.

Most everyone should believe their country is exceptional. (there are certainly exclusions to this). If you said that you thought Thailand was exceptional, I would have no problem with that.

It is amusing watching DUers complain about freedom. From their ToS
Vote for Democrats.

Winning elections is important — therefore, advocating in favor of Republican nominees or in favor of third-party spoiler candidates that could split the vote and throw an election to our conservative opponents is never permitted on Democratic Underground.

It is hard to take any who complains about freedom who strictly tows a party line.

Plus, I often do not lock my doors, never been patted down in school or seen it happen in any school, and my work does not monitor me. We recently installed a camera for the parking lot and have one examining looking over the money and the front door (since thousands of people walk through there a day), but I hardly call that an infringement on my freedoms.

I'm sorry for that. I wouldn't have initially listed Mexico on any list of exceptions. But maybe that gives you some idea why other places that are not Mexico feel they are exceptional?
