Besides, kids nowadays are well aware of "alternative adult lifestyles" and are probably less concerned about them than any previous generations - unless, of course, they are raised in a household that teaches intolerance and hatred for people who are "different" and who practice "alternative adult lifestyles."
I'll bet that by the time they're old enough to even be in scouting, they are well aware of these "alternative adult lifestyles" you seem to think they should be protected from knowing about - unless they are totally isolated from other kids via homeschooling or from watching television or from looking at and reading the covers of the tabloids in the grocery store checkout line.
It is amazing how heterosexuals refer to homosexuality as an "alternative" lifestyle. As a gay male being heterosexual is an "alternative" lifestyle as I am attracted to in every way members of the same sex. I don't think some heterosexuals can reconcile this.
How about we ban anyone from coming out as homosexual or heterosexual in the scouts and call it a day. At the very least we can advocate equal opportunity sexual orientation denial.

The boy scouts don't want to promote your lifestyle. They do want to promote the heterosexual lifestyle. That's what institutions do, they promote certain things they consider important. As it stands, people who engage in the homosexual lifestyle are not wanted as role models for boys by the scouts. Go ahead and start a homosexual scouts, but don't push yourself on people who want nothing with you.
The boy scouts are all about promoting a certain lifestyle, part of which involves being a Christian if I'm not mistaken. Being a homosexual (lifestyle) and being a Christian are not mutually compatible. This integration is tantamount to the destruction of the boy scouts. Not that I care too much, but let's not sugar coat it.

if "sex" is not a big deal to gays then why all the fuss? Why are we constantly hearing about homosexuals? If gays don't want their sexual orientation to be a big deal, then they need to stop shoving it down our throats.
Because sexual orientation involves more than physical behavior and being gay shapes one's outlook on life independent of whether they have sex or not.

Note marriage between a man and woman is a Christian bedrock, not something subject to revision by law.
It's more about how the boys in the troop deal with having openly gay oriented leaders and boys around them. It just complicates the whole scouting dynamic and do parents really want to have discussions about alternative adult lifestyles with their children so soon?
