I'm starting to believe that republicans/conservatives talk a big game about limited government and free markets. In looking at the last 3 republican presidents, none of them ever reduced the size of government. Not only is this the case at the national level, but also at the state level. I can't seem to find one red state (ok, i'll give you texas) that practices free markets, and limited government. Why is every time an election happens, conservatives end up electing moderates, or republicans who have a record of expanding government?

Cause the GOP is filled with squishes - That is whyt I lleft and signed uyp with a local Taxed Enough Already? group.

The USA is too precious and important to global freddcom to let a bunch of leftist swine like Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Schumer et al destroy it, as they are doing already.

Ron Paul might just as well have run as a Democrat for all the support he got from the Republican Party.

It's not just the Republican Party, Republicans themselves are smelly.

its funny you talk about the tea party, because in poll after poll, even tea party members refuse to have their medicare (government program) benefits cut, or changed into a private voucher system.

I sympathize with this. Fiscal conservatives are a dying breed. It seems they've resorted to the Democrat trick of buying votes with government programs and pork-barreling. I think one problem is a general lack of economic knowledge. Another is an inability to transfer from State level, where social programs should be funded (if at all), to the Federal level, where they should not. Thus, Bush II's education programs. Another problem is omnibus bills, which contain a whole plethora of pork-barrel mixed in with a few worthwhile or necessary initiatives. This forces Congresspeople to vote for junk they don't want in order to pass what they do. Another problem is the sacredness of the military among Republican. This is what got Reagan in trouble and I think Romney was headed down the same path. A strong military doesn't necessarily mean a big military. Another problem is a fear of dealing with elderly welfare programs, which are going to self-destruct if not dealt with soon.

The GOP including the Tea Party types are all about big government. They always have and always will be. No true conservative will ever win.
