This is a more lighthearted debate to take away from all the other more serious ones.
I have personally always had a problem with the phrase Happy Holidays, I think it takes away a lot of tradition in our country. We, as a country, have traditionally celebrated the Christmas holidays. Why this has to change moreso than ever is a bummer. I've talked to atheists, Jews, Muslums, etc who feel the same way.
You might want to do a search on the subject in R&P...I can't remember when, but this topic created a heated, angry discussion...and it wasn't pretty.
But, perhaps this one will be more civil; I would hope so.
Civility would presuppose enough respect for the holiday to call it by its name: Christmas. Unfortunately, many people make a religion out of their disrespect for the rest of us.
I heard a national news anchor say once that if anyone wants to wish them well, they'll accept it no matter what form it comes in. I agree! I don't see why Merry Christmas is offensive; however, I'm not the one who decides what offends another person. I taught at a school that gave referrals to students for saying it, and now they've banned saying "Easter" as well. What I don't understand is why we can still name religious holidays for any other religion.

No, otr, it ruins the Christmas spirit. LOL. This is what happens when you raise a society to be individual and live for self gratification. They can't function with others!

Guys let save it for after thanksgiving. I think more people will be inclined to answer then. But until then I going to enjoy the pagan root Halloween (Samhain) first.
P.C., by its nature, is always going to go overboard. Most "real people" don't talk, think, and act P.C.---its very essence is to sound overly non-offensive to show us all the "moral high ground"...and thus, in being so non-offensive, it succeeds in offending most of us with its silliness, because it's disrespectful to our intelligence. It assumes we're all so sensitive that we need to be protected, whether we like it or not.
I'm married to an American Indian, not a "native American"--(unless of course, you want to count us BOTH that way, as we were born here). I know people who drink too much; they don't have "substance abuse problems", they get drunk, and they shouldn't. I had a cousin who used to beat his wife--he didn't have "anger management problems"--he was a JERK.
I'm a Christian, but if you want to celebrate Hannukkah, or Ramadan, it won't offend me.I'm a big boy, and I can "take it". If I could get a day off in the process, all the better.
PC is annoying to most people, because basically it's insincere, sounds condescending, and even sarcastic. It's the stuff of stand-up comedy, not real life.
