I agree, I was a cook for many years and never received a tip. Yet the waitress with a pretty smile that could pour a drink got tips? Never understood that really. Not saying it can't be a hard job, but so is making a fantastic meal in the grill. Now when I correct a million dollar account I don't get a tip...
I don't know, I put myself through college with no debt, paid all my bills (rent for 1 bedroom apt. electricity, phone etc.) by working pizza delivery (tips) 4 days a week.
Depends on the service job and what area etc. for how well one can do. Maybe make it optional for unions of this type
I can relate to you boycewv: when I was younger I did some washing-up jobs in restaurants, never got tips.
and on a busy night I was working flat out - the waitresses were taking in stacks and all I got was min wage, could the bimbos have done the job without me? No chance.

Restaurant wronged you. I asked where my tip when when I did takeout, they said directly to the kitchen. I was happy to hear that.

Tips should be a bonus - NOT part of the wage.
can't people see what a big joke this is - the customer is paying the wage!! whilst the owners are laughing at you for being such schmucks, ha ha I say
Thats one way to assure customers of lousy service.....
Utter BS.
go to a country where tipping isn't the norm, and you will still get good service.
this is enforced by staff being fired for not giving it.
This whole tipping game is part of the vile entitlement culture that everyone now expects.
