If anything, we live in a representative democracy. Though we also live under a republic as well. It's a mixture of both.
Read the last sentence. We are designed as a representative republic... A representative democracy would imply that each individual votes on every issue and forwards that to his representative who votes as the majority would dictate. That isn't what we have... We elect officials who vote independently on issues, irrespective of majority concensus... (at least they are supposed to) They only answer for their decisions on election day...

Of course, that implies the public is well aware of the decisions of the previous terms in office on election day. Also, if the politician is bribed, then I guess it's more than just voting now, it's money as well.

At this juncture, the public is oblivious as to what is going on around them unless it refers to the Kardashians or other such rubbish... Yeah it is money and our politicians are ALL corrupted.. Some worse than others but no party has clean hands.

We vote on representatives who personally vote on issues. However, sometimes we can vote on local or state issues directly.

Which is why I believe the uninformed voter is a dangerous voter. Nothing good ever happened from people just going along.

Conservatives believe in smaller government and a federal government limited to its constitutional powers. They believe in the concept that people know what is best for them and do not need the government to "help" them. They believe in hard work, independence, and the ability of each individual to achieve.

Conservatives favor lower tax rates as the best way to stimulate the economy and create jobs.

Conservatives realize that we are sitting on a vast sea of natural resources including oil, both on and off shore, and know that it is prudent to take advantage of it to end our dependence on foriegn oil. This can be done in an environmentally friendly manner.

Conservatives wish to protect our forests, waterways, and wildlife, and support common sense environmental regulation which does not trample on private property rights.

Conservatives believe in an ownership society because a person who owns something is more likey to take care of it, not to destroy it.

Conservatives believe that peace is best maintained from a position of strength and know that a strong military is needed to project neccesary force to ensure our national security.

You asked for a few ideas and I gave some - providing an exhaustive list would be time consuming and off topic.

Hope that helps some.
