Bob, The SS system is too progressive as it is. Too many lower income ppl collecting nearly all or more of their contributions and the actual contributors getting "the crumbs". No thanks, I'll pass on that. It won't happen anyway.
The SS system is too regressive. Too many low income ppl paying in for decades and then dying before getting back their own money.
I am a burger flipper with a side income (re)selling stuff online. I have found a niche in which I can flip purchases profitably. This side income pays for my Internet access.
I (usually) get Internet access from Comcast but sometimes get it from wifi sources like libraries and supermarkets.
Also I live in a house with four other people who defray my Internet access expense.
I am using a $70 used laptop I bought online.
You have to make financial decisions. ONLY YOU can determine if your retirement is worthy.
You could have done the Neanderthal-thing and relocated to a different county, city or State.
There's no one living or dead to the right of me.....you can do whatever you want, provided you cause no harm to others, whether that harm is physical or financial.
So, yeah, I'm going to tell property owners what they can and cannot do with their property, to prevent economic harm (and possibly physical harm) to others.
Timing....

Aha, I was wondering when you were going to weigh in on that issue.
Surely you are aware that we have a tort system to address economic harm, but apparently that's not good enough for you.
Your proper recourse in the event of economic harm is to sue the tortfeasor, but no, you would rather stick government's nose into the tent and exercise prior restraint on property owners.
This time you've surprised me.
And what good would moving to BFE do me without a car???

Do you put money aside from your "side" job?
I've been trying to make the prudent financial decision of buying a small home, escaping rent inflation (allowing me to save more over time) and building equity, but government gets in my way.
I put my net income back into the business; currently I have $10K of inventory.
We aren't talking about pay raises for congress, we are talking about social security, specifically. If we get into all of the government waste, we lose the point.
The thread is about social security, not pay for congress, not medicare, not medicaid, not defense, social security. Please stay on topic.
There is no reason seniors should expect a cost of living increase, while the system is going bankrupt.
Government denies millions of working class Americans the opportunity to buy homes they can affoird and thus escape rent inflation. That's why seniors need cost of living increases.
The SS retirement age should be raised, given our far higher life expectancy vs prior decades.
I'm 52, and my generation should not be excluded from new, higher retirement ages. We need to be part of the solution.
What do you say to people who die early, before collecting? Thank you for p(l)aying?
i'm all for raising the age... As long as there is increased and more muscular enforcement of age discrimination laws.
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Like that will ever happen.
