Sorry... Huge? On TV tells it was 42 m diameter. Is it HUGE? Or you have another info?
Actually, NASA has revised its prior estimates and now place the meteorite original size as 17m, or 56 ft., in diameter and weighing in at 10 kilotons. Considering that it produced an explosion that was more than 30 times more powerful than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima, as far as humans are concerned, it was pretty big. As far as the planet is concerned it was a nit. Meteors that size impact the planet every century.
The news really down played this.. I wonder if these space rocks were trailing the near miss of Feb 15 2013?
I wonder if there are more in coming soon...
Like to find a hunk of one made of iron to make a knife with
In Sept 2005 on Pine Ridge SD I heard something in the sky before i saw it, which i think was a shooting star burning up. The sound was just like bacon cooking in a pan. To this day i am not sure about what I heard or saw, and as far as i know i seem to be the only who noticed it.
I am stunned to find out 6 cities and 400-500 people were injured.

The mainstream media got it wrong because they are designed to report instantly, when an event like this requires time to properly analyze. For example, CNN, the Huffington Post, Fox, and others are still reporting the meteor over the Urals to have been 10 tons in weight, while NASA has put out a revised estimate of 10,000 tons.
NASA is also estimating its size to have been 17 meters (56 feet) before it exploded, releasing almost 500 kilotons of TNT of energy.
It is a good thing it exploded at about 109,000 feet, or the damage would have been much worse, with many deaths. It was a shallow entry, so there is going to be a large debris field spread over several miles, but they should find pieces eventually.
P.S. If I had to guess, I would assume NASA is using Earth's density for the meteor, or 5,520 kg/m^3, when calculating the energy released. If the density of the meteor was iron, or 8,000 kg/m^3, then the explosion would have been much larger, and exploding lower in the atmosphere.
