i have had at different times. only pets, only kids and both kids and pets.

I fully understand the comparison and where it breaks down.

I am comfortable with the comparison I made.

I read what you wrote about your country. I realize you are talking about America, but I certainly do not recognize your view of this place. I am sad for you. It must be awful going thru life thinking like that.

I always wanted kids. But when I speak to parents, they tell me how hard it is, how tired they are, how much they invest for so little return and how much it hurts to have their kids great up into dissapointments.

The biggest advertisement for being childless are parents themselves.

I didn't want my wife and me to be alone in our old age. I wanted to have grandchildren. I wanted kids running around the house. I just wanted a family.

It's a fact, and it doesn't speak well of the United States. Why lie about it?

When people grow old in many parts of the world, family and friends care for them at home until the end. In America, the elderly are more typically sent to an assisted living or a skilled nursing facility, a contrast that may appear selfish, uncaring and even callous.

The America I grew up in and still live in is the greatest land of opertunity in the world. I knew I could do or be anything I set my mind to.

The year I got married i made 5k and we lived dirt poor. I know what it means to change your stars. Ive done it. I couldnt have done that anywhwere else in the world.

As for care for the elderly, my grandmother passed away in my parents home. Where she recieved at home hospice care. The entire family helped. Her passing was peaceful and in a room full of loved ones who lovingly cared for her when she was beyond the ability to care for herself.

MY America is not jaded, disgusting or something to be ashamed of. It is a great place.

Oh please. In your country, old people are DUMPED, DUMPED in a bunch of nursing homes. And please cease with your jingoism.

I'm glad you all took care of your grandmother. That's how it should be. The best of all possibilities. In my family we do that.

Unfortunately, you're too delusional about most things, and wear some very well-fitted horseblinders, and refuse to see reality.

You and your caps read psychotic. I already help them, fool. But no matter how much freaks on this forum yap, a pregnant woman (me) cannot be carrying around an adult nor can a 71 year old. I cannot quit my job and leave my family to give her the f/t care she needs. The assertion is retarded.

What I find funny about your accusations is that you're basically a do nothing, like the others in this tread who make charges with no experience, but you point fingers. We had a hospice mgr in this thread testify to his/her experiences with families, which you ignore. What you do instead is come off as hysterical and accusatory. Honestly, given your mother's condition you might want to pause for a minute.

What makes it work while is when they come up and kiss and cuddle you for no reason, when they tell you they love you, when you see everything they have learned, their first steps, first words, the first time they do anything at all you get a feeling like nothing else the pride and love you feel for that littler person is phenomenal. I get stressed and its expensive but it's the best thing in the world and I wouldn't change a single thing.

Society ingrains in our heads from day 1 of our lives that being parent is the only thing that brings happiness and fulfillment. What makes you happy may be depressing for another person. Not everyone is overjoyed by having kids. look in the foster care system. I think these people love their kids but parenting didn't bring hem the perceievd happiness.
