Okay, it seems video games come under fire every time there is a shooting or violent crime. News stations, such as Fox, blame these increasingly popular pass times as the reason for violent behavior in certain groups of people. They have pointed out that a lot of the criminals that commit these crimes played video games. They even try to say that video games were behind such acts as the Columbine shooting or the shooting in DC.

DC gunman obsessed with violent video games, reports say | Fox News

I want to know what you think. Do you think video games are to blame?

Do you believe that violence in games increase aggression in people and make them want to go commit violent acts? Would removing violence from video games decrease violence by a noticeable amount?

If you look at violent crime in this country and where most of it is isolated it has nothing to do with video games IMO all to do with decades of oppression and lack of jobs, the Drug War, racism (which started many gangs in this country), hopelessness, etc.

I honestly believe that most don't want to improve certain communities. Some people still believe we have a country of extreme scarcity and that they'll have to give up something if more people move into the Middle and Upper class.

Don't all of these people also exhale carbon dioxide, take showers, drink water and eat food?

To blame violence on one thing is foolish (even though some try to). The source of violence is much like opinions - it differs from one person to the other. It most comes in combinations, but not always. It often has mental instability/impairment involved, but not always. Sometimes a certain weapon is involved, but not always. It is best to stop blaming tools and entertainment and start addressing mental states. That may be the most effective way to approach this - but not absolutely and completely control. Heck, even boredom seems to cause violence nowadays!!!!

While I do believe video games tend to be a bit too over the top with their violence, blaming them for murders and crime is just a scapegoat. The problem is clearly not teaching people right from wrong when they're growing up. Mental illness is also another condition that we need to address.

I remember in the 80's people blamed movies like Nightmare on Elms Street and Heavy Metal for their problems. Maybe it's true that certain individuals may be influenced by such things, the vast majority of people simply enjoyed those movies for the scare factor with their friends. Most people who play violent video games are the same way, just a hobby they enjoy, they know right from wrong and are not influenced by them.

It's time for society to start taking responsibility and stop blaming.

If no one else but the person is to blame when people look at regulating guns...

...why is the video game only to blame for what people do?

Guessing you might be joking,..

Violence was already spiking in black communities before "Gangster Rap." It was due to the Drug War.
