Who thinks that's sustainable? Who thinks that 54% of a state's births are to no/low-income mothers is a good thing?
What happens then is what is happening now with Illinois going broke. We are increasingly becoming a state where a minority are taxed heavily to pay for the freeloaders on welfare. No not everyone on welfare but those who are on long term who keep having babies sure are. It has resulted in higher crime rates and we will see a problem within a few generations where the educated people die out. Welfare in Illinois is extremely generous assuming you have an out of wedlock baby even if illegal. However, if you are childless or married with kids? try getting assistance. Oh sure married couples with kids will get some things but nowhere as much as single moms. It's disgusting.
Where do we send the cancer patients to die when they can't afford either treatments or housing? How about people with brain damage from a car accident? I guess they can be evicted out onto the sidewalk for all you care, tworent.
People who need it should be just as mad as hell at the people who are scamming the system. Not only are these leaches taking from the people who need it they take off every day WORKING Americans who have to tell their kids no because they have to feed the greedy.
Public assistance benefits recipients can staff the child care facilities in exchange for receiving their public assistance benefits.
The concept is no more handouts. EARN your assistance benefits.
Children aside (although I still don't think you've answered that question), what about those who legitimately cannot work - like the elderly and disabled? The OP is proposing an end to ALL assistance, remember? And despite how people like to paint all welfare/aid recipients as leeches, there are those who genuinely need it. My Grandmother is 96 years old and in a wheelchair, and she gets social security... would you recommend sending her to work for that assistance?
(in her case there are family members able to help, but let's assume that is not true)

Exactly! The leaches are hiding behind this very question. What about the children, what about the elderly. The left knows you ask this question allowing the leaches are hiding behind children and elderly.

My governor is cutting assistance to the elderly and disabled while not cutting assistance to others like illegals and welfare freeloaders. Very wrong. I have no issue helping the elderly and disabled.

A couple of years ago I was at Kmart and saw this woman trying to buy electronics with a Link Card. I was angered because I just lost my job yet she was abled bodied and thought she deserved it. It rejected her purchase so she pulled out a wad of money. I have seen people on assistance buying junk food and a dentist I used to be a patient of would have these welfare freeloaders in with their kids and driving better cars than mine.
Freeloaders don't think anything of it. One time in a very bad snowstorm the neighbor girl (living off her mom and getting welfare) came over to my m-i-l house. My m-i-l was very nervous because her kids were battling the snow storm to get home from WORK. Then the girl had the nerve to say "now what fool would be out there in that snow" to which m-i-l became furious and said, "those fools out there going to work to support your fat azz".
If you are a freeloader, people might not say things to your face but they are thinking it and the thoughts are not very nice.

Actually getting low-income communities to function productively instead of remaining the hell holes many of them are is a job-creating endeavor. Requiring those receiving public assistance to perform community service to improve heir own communities in exchange for public assistance benefits doesn't take anyone's job away. AND it improves low-income environments.
Define "improve their own communities". If you're talking about increasing property values, why would low-income renters shoot themselves in the foot and promote their own displacement?
I'm in the bottom quintile and I pay a positive effective tax rate. Who are all these middle quintile people paying a negative effective tax rate?
