Modesto, CA is certainly red politically and is on this list as well. BTW, liberal areas like Minneapolis/St. Paul, Seattle/Tacoma, Denver/Boulder and Portland, have scored well on quality of life/economic surveys.

You do know that the war costs under bush were not shown in the defense budget, but under discretionary spending.
