The poor could never do this where I live. You would need a decent amount of land to have any kind of sustainable crop yield, and poor people could never afford the property taxes. I saw a house the other day that had 5 aches of land and the property taxes were over 13K per year. What poor person can afford that?
Well, I mind my own business, and I don't know who they are, but the reason I created this thread was because I wondered about the culture of the people that people on here complain about. A long time ago, much effort was made to get the population to help themselves, so that more could be used to go towards the war effort.
You gotta have a really, really big do-good motive to make it work.

Send them to Texas..45 acres here and under $2K in taxes.
I went out to my 8ft. by 8ft. garden this morning and picked a mess of Collard greens and that what I'll have for supper tonight. Greens, fried ham, hominy, cornbread, big slice of onion and sweet tea.
There's been a resurgence in food stamp use as well. Food stamp recipients increased 11,133 per day under Obama's first term.
Urban gardening. LOL
Yes, why get out and make any effort when the food stamp program along with WIC and free meals at schools provide so much. There is very little work ethic left.

Yes it was his first term that caused the increase. Just here mere presence increased food stamp eligibility nothing to do with the worst recession in memory that started prior to his coming into office... Oh for god's sake!

Add heavy advertising and a relaxation of the eligibility rules to that as well.
