this would save on welfare, possibly reduce the tax burden and would help society in general.

why not?
Good idea but this adminstration would rather create jobs for illegal aliens instead.

So, if they did hire again, but it cost them only $7 to pay someone $14 an hour, then everyone would be better off: the people receiving the subsidized wage, the government which would end up paying less out, the company which would experience increased productivity, and the formerly over-worked employees that were doing two jobs and being paid for one.

Plus, we know we have a crumbling infrastructure. It's downright dangerous, especially the number of bridges that are getting old. Sooner or later, that infrastructure has to have maintenance and repair, and now is a good time to do it. Yes, the government pays for it, but a lot of that cost is cancelled by the amount that would be saved in welfare and unemployment benefits, and when those new workers have incomes their spending would also act as a boost to the economy. Not to mention that a better infrastructure would decrease the transportation costs of doing business, and reduce the wear and tear on individual consumer's cars. I know I saw somewhere that Americans spend an incredible amount on tires and car repairs that are due to all the damage their vehicles get from bad roads.

yep, that's a problem - same in my own country.

solution: kick out all illegals, severely restrict un-skilled legal immigration, and thus create jobs for locals.

American desperately needs its immigrants. The population here is aging and not having enough children. You need an influx of young people to do things like support Social Security, and if Americans aren't having enough children to do that, you need to bring them in as immigrants.

Actually they have been busy creating jobs for the big banks.

Unfair because you say so?

None of them? They've hired no one?

How many are getting old?

We already have people that repair bridges........I know, they are overworked and mistreated.

I have a better idea. You have all the answers, why not start a business and start hiring people?

so who supports the immigrants in their old age though?

I guess it would be MORE immigrants.

it's not a self-sustaining system, unless you want your country to be de facto colonised in the future.

There is plenty of work out there already.

Not if they were hired to do the work. Still got that D on our infrastructure from civil engineers. The time to fix it is when we have unemployment. When we have 3% unemployment there will be no workers to do it. Again people who think financials matter in macroeconomics at the sovereign state level are morons. The financials of the government are the inverse to the private sector. When it has lots of revenues and surpluses, government is expensive. When there is 12% unemployment government is cheap. What is the real cost of occupying the time of people doing nothing? How can people be so utterly stupid and clueless? I just don't get it. Look at the real world. Financial accounting has made people into zombie lunatics. Its for the private sector.
