Ayn Rand was a cop out who ended up scrounging state benefits, in direct contradiction to her ideology.

How can anyone respect someone like that.

Yes.

They both wrote several books.

The proof is in the writing.

Your lack of knowledge and education on economics, finance, and foreign policy continues to amaze me. Please pick up a book and educate yourself so that you stop embarrassing yourself on this forum.

How the hell did Friedman's ideas 'murder people in Chile'? Please educate us.

Even Hayek, mentor of Friedman was a fan of Pinochet.

You see, Pinochet was a hero for these guys because he forced through their policies with his dictatorship.

mass murder, corruption, beatings and grinding poverty aside, I guess you could say the Pinochet/Friedman coalition was a success

No, but their critics would be.

And, clearly, are.

And you would rather have seen horrifying behavior like we saw in central, eastern europe and the USSR for decades? There isn't always a good answer. Additionally, Hayek was hardly a supporter of dictatorships, he just saw Pinochet as the only option for Chile to move to a stable society, and unfortunately he was right. Are you also going to ignore the fact that Friedman's policies prevented an economic collapse in the USA in the '70s? Oh wait, you don't actually educate yourself on these topics, you just spout off whatever extreme ideologue is popular at the moment.

Additionally, it is nothing short of stupid to claim that Friedman is responsible for deaths because someone who was a fan of his knew someone else. Talk about twisted logic.

Will you put your money where your mouth is though?

Would you parade around the slums/depressed areas of Chile, Argentina, Russia, Britain - singing the praises of Hayek, Friedman and Thatcher?

Tell the mothers of the murdered how great your hero is.

Can you respond to my point instead of being so offensive as to use the deaths of innocent people to make a political point? How heartless are you?

A dictator for a few years is better than a dictator for a few decades, but obviously you disagree and want deaths in Chile to have gone on for decades longer. Additionally, Hayek was all but responsible for bringing down the soviet union, but again, your lack of education would mean that you don't understand that.

PLEASE pick up a book and educate yourself and stop being such a low life as to use the murder of innocent people to make a political point. You should be disgusted with yourself.

Lightbulb Ayn Rand + Milton Friedman - would the love child be an abomination?

I'd imagine that Milton would be able to do better.

Actually, Friedman believed in maximizing liberty and was quite confident that economic liberty would soon destroy a Chilean dictatorship. He was right. No one was more responsible for ending the draft than Milton.

http://reason.com/archives/2006/12/1...d-the-dictator

A good article.

From the article:

“I have nothing good to say about the political regime that Pinochet imposed,” Friedman said in 1991. “It was a terrible political regime. The real miracle of Chile is not how well it has done economically; the real miracle of Chile is that a military junta was willing to go against its principles and support a free-market regime designed by principled believers in a free market….In Chile, the drive for political freedom that was generated by economic freedom and the resulting economic success ultimately resulted in a referendum that introduced political democracy.”

Friedman was a classical liberal who believed that economic and civil liberties were intertwined.
