There's no more growing into or out of a phase and some are phases.

I've read articles that talk about 2 year old boys liking their nails painted and recognizing transgender tendencies.

Heck, what 2 year old regardless of sex doesn't like their nails painted ?
They don't know at 2 ..they see colors on your nails and they want them too.

As kids we took our mother's high heel shoes and had races with them..both girls and boys.
We all got in trouble for it too when we got caught.
Did that mean the boys were transgendered ? No..we were just having fun trying to run in high heels.

I think some parents might be too quick to categorize very young children.
I would never ordinarily agree with you, but here I completely do. I don't think kids who haven't yet hit puberty are mature enough to make these decisions. I don't believe that parents should force them into female coded activities and dress if they're a girl, but nor should they encourage it as this family has done.

Many gay kids go through this phase - they know something is different, but are far too young to tell what. Parents should strive to create an open atmosphere. If this kid is not indeed transgendered, but rather simply gay, he is going to have problems as an adult.

Riiiiight... I'm sure that would work, LOL.

And why are you being so obnoxious about writing HE in bold and capitals? Does it bother you when people try to form a different identity? If I want to call myself a pumpkin, that is my right as a free-speaking American - bathroom and legal issues aside, why do you have to be all pushy about correcting somebody? If the child wants to identify as a girl, that is between her & her parents. Not you.

And you know all of this (about the child in the story) how, exactly? I don't think it says anything about the parents FORCING anything on them.

Nope, read the story again, and it says NOTHING about whether the parents forced this or not - so you're just blowing smoke, eh?

Too quick to categorize, perhaps... but I think gender identity starts younger than you/we realize, and suppressing such feelings is also not the healthiest route. Let them figure it out, and support them along the way - that is all a parent can do, really.

I get the feeling though, from reading the article, that the parents are pushing the issue too far.

He didn't say anything about suppressing the behavior. He gave an example of boys and girls getting in trouble for playing with mom's shoes! I believe the point he was making was NOT to encourage a behavior. Let kids be kids, don't reinforce opposite gender roles and behaviors in children. If it's going to happen, it will.

Maybe, maybe not... I don't think anyone here knows the family personally, so we're all just speculating in the end. But even if they were "pushing the issue," you cannot force something like this to occur long-term. Plenty of parents push religious beliefs on their children, but many will still end up rejecting those beliefs. Right? I also know quite a few gay people who grew up in traditional/religious households, some even from flat-out homophobic parents, but they are still gay.

I wasn't really directing that comment at the poster, it was more of a general statement.

OK, pumpkin... I don't believe in encouraging the insane.

If I cut my arms and legs off, does it make me a snake? How about the guy who got leopard tattoos head-to-toe, fang implants, and facial reconstruction to look more cat-like? Did it make him a leopard and should others acquiesce to such delusions?

Now you are just being ridiculous. Try and be civil and offer something constructive to the debate please.
