I have to ask what universe you were in because that analysis of NPR is so off base it's almost funny.
By your rudeness, I can tell you are a devoted listener. (Just kidding...kinda )
I'm not trying to be mean, but try to listen as someone who doesn't agree with them. Maybe it's cathartic to wallow in their anger when you feel the same way. But if you don't agree with them, that hatred and anger is very difficult to take.
And I'm not one of these people that only wants to hear people confirm their own opinions. I regularly read HuffPo and Salon. I read columns in RealClearPolitics by left-leaning columnists too. So, it's sincerely not the content of what they are saying that I find so objectionable, it's their tone.
Limbaugh seriously is upbeat and optimistic. I think that's part of his success. You can't get people to tune in day after day, year after year to hear anger. This is one of his advantages over Savage.
I think the true key to his success is that conservatives are so stifled in society by political correctness and feel like they have to censor themselves so much in social gatherings and at work, it's actually refreshing to hear him go after someone like Sandra Fluke. Maybe they are a little put off by it, but at the same time, it's a guilty pleasure because you feel so repressed all the time. Probably the same reason men who can't get laid enjoy porn that is humiliating or dominating over women.

Did I just compare Rush to porn??!!!
I'll ask you the same thing as I asked another. Do you have examples? Coming on here & claiming NPR is angry w/out providing anything to substantiate that claim makes it simple your opinion. I listen to NPR on my local affiliate everyday so some local programs are mixed in with the news, BBC, Fresh Air. As far as what I listen to & I only listen to NPR until about noon because I think after that they start repeating the programming, nothing comes close to angry. So I'd appreciate specific examples.

And I'd like to comment on your comment about Limbough being upbeat & optimistic. Every single video clip I've seen or heard with him couldn't be farther from the truth.

I don't have any specifics. I couldn't even tell you the names of the people I listened to. That was just my overall impression.
There is a lot of right-wing radio I don't like. I'm in St. Louis now and I think Jamie Allman is a Republican syncophant and seems really lazy and unmotivated. Sean Hannity talks over people and is also a shill of the GOP. Savage, like I said is too angry and an egomaniac. Mark Levin shouts too much.
I listen to NPR, and I read The Drudge Report on the WWW.
I don't find it too difficult to separate the facts from the blowhards, most of the time.
I don't listen to any of the pontificating opinionated blowhards on either side of the aisle.
Repugnicans or Demoncraps, they will all bend, stretch, and mutilate the truth to suit their own agenda. More than a few will outright lie, just like the politicians they serve.
A plague on all of them!
