Nevermind. Whoever did that would be instantly accused of racism.
You and others can mock this all you want, but everyone knows that being "fat" is "bad" (another three letter word). We don't need to teach kids this. I agree, they could have used an animal for the example.

No, you don't need to teach kids that (That fat is bad)
Just teach them that fat is fat....be it an animal or a person....that facts are facts.
What? You want to teach kids to pretend that what is true isn't?
University Place is near Tacoma, and thus the school district is run by liberals.
Apparently, these libs don't want children to learn.
P.S. - I am a man who appreciates a somewhat plump female body.
I think you've tripped over yourself in your zeal to blame libs for everything. You appear to be blaming political correctness on the school board and not on the parent who objected to the word 'fat'. I'm so confused with right wing pretzel logic.

And how are kids to determine fat from big boned ?
And who's to tell them that sometimes fat is due to a medical reason ?
At that age..fat is bad encompasses all fat people.
These are not adults but young children.

Did you see the cartoon fat kid in the article?
Those weren't big bones.
And what's a medical condition got to do with it?
It's not the idea to teach that "fat is bad". It's to teach that fat is fat.
The parent in this case and a few right here on the board are using fat and bad as synonyms.
I am just picturing a world where our kids are not taught certain words because they are 'offensive'. 20 years from today one of their houses gets robbed and the police are called, and when the police ask them to describe the person, they just CANT. Why? Well, we didnt teach them fat, skinny, tall, short, black, white, boy, girl, etc. I guess they can let the police know that it wasnt a camel or a monkey, but a person... unless thats offensive...
OMG...how ridiculous. There is nothing wrong with the assignment.
But why is this a liberal/conservative issue? Especially if the school district is supposedly "liberal" itself.

Oh, I see that my OP may have been confusing. Sorry about that.
I have no problem with the assignment, although as another poster stated, any number of three letter words could have been used instead.
I meant to convey that the population of the particular school district is somewhat liberal, which seems to explain the mothers "outrage".

No one has to teach a child that age that fat is bad. They already know it.
