In a What If? discussion, any thought are just as valid as any other thoughts.
This is especially true of presidential elections because it is never just the president who becomes a major player. His cabinet members all have powers that can drastically change the course of the United States and the world, and in some presidencies a cabinet member has created more and deeper changes than the president who appointed him.
We would have low single digit unemployment, our credit rating would be first rate, our deficit would be much less, we would have a coherent foriegn policy, and our prestige in the world would be preserved.
No it's not. In several issues, McCain is just a miniature Obama.
Agreed. That's why I said we'd probably have a somewhat lower debt, somewhat better business climate, and somewhat more stable Middle East. Not vastly. Somewhat.

Thoughts based on knowledge are more valid than thoughts based on partisanship or pure ignorance. You really thing that "it would be a pardise", "it would be hell on earth", and "it probably wouldn't be hugely different" are all equally valid?
So I say it would be perfect minus some dumbass comments from Palin. I feel like we became more of an entitlement country.
I don't hear any "ask now what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country" Speeches, just "I suck at my job because of, Congress, Bush, republicans, the economy, etc...."

McCain wanted a smaller stimulus, when most economic experts felt the stimulus Obama ultimately passed wasnt big enough. Can you say zero growth?
As for foreign policy, OBL would likely still be alive in this alternate universe:
We would be/have been at war with Iraq. During the big protest the {R}s and Fox news were chomping at the bit for a more forceful response. That would have hiked gas prices above 3 bucks during his first term. A smaller stimulus and less debt, Reid would still be sitting on bills,Barnanke would be QE ing his A$$ off,UE at about the same place, GDP about the same place, and all of the Bush tax cuts would have remained. We are screwed no matter who sits in the big chair because the fundamentals of our economy are out of place and we can not compete globally.

What shape do you think the country would be in now if McCain/Palin won in 2008?

it really depends on what mccain wanted to do and was able to get passed in congress. we wouldnt have obamacare, and while federal spending would have gone up, it would not have been as much as obama has done. and depending on what regulations a mccain administration would have put in place, we would likely have a better business environment, and likely slightly lower unemployment.
