Not making fun....just scratching my head about that comment.
It's not about who I would be attracted to, it's based on the simple fact that gay men are just so fabulous!
(seriously, I've always enjoyed the "culture" and social aspects of being a gay man - at least in some contexts)
Being truthful hurts all the time. Try being truthful to someone whose self-conscious about their appearance for example.
Of course the truth hurts, which is why only a real jerk would be commenting on somebody's appearance (to their face). If you're married or have a girlfriend, I imagine you refrain from telling her when an outfit makes her look fat? If not, I can only assume you spend many nights on the couch.
It's all about using tact, and trying to be generally respectful - at least until someone gives you a reason NOT to be respectful. Is that so difficult?

Nobody is trying to "excise" anything, we are just discussing why some people find it offensive. I'm the last person to say we should be controlled, in terms of free speech; but at the same time, I'm also one of the last people you'll catch offending other people. "Mentally challenged" means nothing, except maybe that they have a mental illness (i.e. schizophrenia); and "developmentally disabled" refers more to developmental disorders, like autism or dyslexia. If you're going to start picking apart definitions, at least know the correct ones for each term!
You should think more before you post, too, because anyone with the mental capacity beyond a 12yo can refrain from calling intelligent people "idiots." Considering you can't even follow the basic guidelines of this forum (no personal attacks), I would question your abilities first.
He didn't call anyone an idiot, he used a hypothetical example in order to draw an analogy.
I wasn't insulting you personally, I was just saying it's not that hard to avoid offending people... if somebody really IS an idiot, by all means call them one. That isn't being offensive, that is being truthful. But using the phrase "that's so gay" isn't necessarily meaning something IS gay (unless we're talking about a Liza Minnelli performance at Pride or something), it is specifically used as an insult for people who can't come up with anything better. Why not call it what it is, i.e. "lame" or "stupid?"
Gay just means "happy" or 'merry".
Someome could say "Have a gay Christmas" or "Gay birthday" and be entirely correct.
