Also, there is a lot of prep work before the tours start. Many rugs are rolled up and removed, some breakable items are removed, and portable barricades are put in place to keep visitors away from furniture, etc. When the tours are over, everything is put back the way it was. Volunteers serve as guides only. Everything else related to the tours is done by paid staff, whose salaries are being cut by the sequester.

You want smaller government, you're going to get smaller government.
Hello!! the security is the same whether there are tours or not and it is done by SS which is on duty regardless. I have been on the tour as well. Of course there are checkpoints, that has always been the same...Now would you like to tell us how much the staff salaries have been cut? We are not talking about when they are cut, down the road (which btw isn't going to happen) we are talking about now, here, no cuts!!!! What is it so many can not understand? Increases have been cut, that is it!!

No way will they understand or if they do, admit the cuts are not across any board. Our daughter works at MCO, she says the airport security check hasn't changed one bit with the exception Spring break is starting to kick in so there are slightly bigger crowds.

[MOD CUT/off topic].

Umm the volunteers doing the current tours are already trained.

Besides it is usually volunteers training other volunteers in regards to tours. Not a paid staff person.

And is the WH sitting in the dark now?

This was done to make a statement nothing more.

[MOD CUT]
Rocky start to second term raises questions about Obama approach

One immediate impact came Tuesday when the White House announced it was canceling all tours because of the forced spending cuts.

"Due to staffing reductions resulting from sequestration we regret to inform that White House tours will be canceled effective Saturday March 9, 2013, until further notice," said an automated message at the visitor center's hotline. "Unfortunately we will not be able to reschedule affected tours."

Schiller called the move "monumentally stupid," saying people will blame Obama instead of House Republicans. She added it also "smacks of such elitism not to understand how that might ruin a trip to (Washington) for a family that planned it for a while."

It's not a load of horse crap.
You just don't like it.
It's reality, and fiscally responsible.
Isn't that what you want?
NOW you want fiscally responsible? I'd rather the WH calligraphers go away, than close the people's house.

"As this pain starts to gradually spread to communities" hit by $85 billion in cuts "more Republican colleagues who are concerned about this harm to their constituents will choose bipartisan compromise on revenue raising tax reform with serious entitlement reform," said Sperling.

They'll choose this bipartisan compromise over what is an ideological position that every single penny of deficit reduction going forward must be on the middle class or seniors or children, and that there can't be one penny that comes from closing loopholes or tax expenditures," he added.

GOP is putting more nails in their coffin with their constituents.

protecting the 1% in this economy is NOT sitting well with anyone outside the beltway.

Yes indeed.
It's just another Obama Dog & Pony Show.

Everything he does and says is filled with so much obvious propaganda.

I wonder how long we could fund the White House tours with the amount of taxpayer money we spent on the first families separate vacation trips to Aspen and Palm Beach.

Well since we are spending $25 billion/year to keep empty Federal buildings why not open them up to tours ?

...Obama mentioned that we must make cuts and part of it was stopping the White House Tours as he tee'd off on the 13th hole.
