If you live in the United States, you are a rich woman. Didn't you know, our streets are paved with gold. And if you buy that, I've got some prime land to sell you.
Let me put it to ya this way - if right wingnuts were allowed to compare this country with Somalia and the Congo, they'd be happy as clams. The one thing they do NOT want to do is compare this country to good countries. Problem is, I won't let them do this.

If they had to compare this country to Norway, Denmark, Sweden, France, Italy, Australia, and many more countries which are pretty well-to-do and where the quality of life is very high, they'd melt like the Wicked Witch of the West.

It's just so much easier to compare the U.S. with the most suffering countries on the planet. That way everything here looks simply fabulous!!!! lol

Then why don't you do it? Tell us exactly how things are so much better for the poor in those other countries. Here they get section 8, Medicaid, food stamps, WIC, EBT cards, cell phones, SSI for babies, etc,. so that it all adds up to some good benefits. What is so awful about that compared to Denmark or Italy?

Do you not realize that EU citizens are taxed much greater than we are, that corporations there are heavily subsidized by the govt (this is what you get all riled up about in the US), that their health care takes longer to get done, etc.

You claim to have lived in Sweden? (for a month at age 18), like that some how qualifies you to know anything about the EU. I have lived in Germany for 4 years, Belgium for 2 years and Portugal we still have properties there, my wife is a EU citizen and prefers to live here in the US while she laughs at your ignorance of the EU.

Sweden

How about this where the US actually has a higher quality of life then most EU countries to include Sweden. http://www.mapsofworld.com/world-top...-life-map.html

Why don't I do what? Compare our poor here to the poor in Denmark? The poor in Italy? The poor in Norway?

My personal quality of life is much better here then it was in the US.
Not that it was so bad in the US.

It seems Americans define quality of life by how big of a car and house you have.

I am a single dad, I have a secure job, health insurance, a small apartment, a small car, A celler room full of windsurfing and rockclimbing stuff, a small racing sailboat, a mountainbike, a road bike and 30 vacation days a year. Maybe will pick up Motorcycle. I do not need to worry about my daughter not being able to afford to study, college is close to free.
I live in a nice small town quite near several citys, forests mountains and lakes within a reasonable drive...

And what do you pay in taxes?

I define quality of life by how much freedom I have, if it's freedom to buy a big house or not, or to open a business, or to drive a big truck if I choose. Some do not like living on top of each other and prefer their privacy. Socialists think we should crowd in together and just get along and make open spaces public. I like to have my own open space where I can plant trees or build a workshop or practice shooting targets. Your hobbies might be sailing and climbing, someone else's might be restoring vintage cars which requires more space. It's about options.

I don't think you read the OP's post.

I'm not sure why you'd think that 1,500 dollar flat screen TV's are equivalent to being left to die on the street or a refrigerator. Must be a liberal only thought process.

I pay more taxes then in the US but so what. I my pay is higher and I get more for my taxes. My girlfriend just bought house with big yard and garden and trees and all that. you can have that just as well here if you like and she earns less than I do (part time cook and housekeeper with three daughters). My best friend restores old cars, you can do that here as well. No body stopping anyone from owning a big truck if you don´t mind paying for the fuel.

Shooting, well I used to own guns and in America I like shooting, I am ex infantry... even though I am pretty liberal I have nothing against gun ownership. Still here I feel no need or desire to own guns.
