Last week the White House warned us that the sequester meant cutbacks for food inspectors, which would put us all at risk for E. Coli in our spinach and salmonella in peanut butter. So while you're worrying about whether your kids PB&J are safe, some USDA employees will be enjoying two different wine and food tasting conferences in the next month.

Tom Coburn (R-OK) sent a letter to the Ag Sec. requesting they cancel the USDA participation in the conferences. The letter reads in part:
Quote:
“While these conferences may be fun, interesting and even educational getaways for department employees, food inspecting rather than food tasting should be USDA’s priority at this time,” Dr. Coburn said in a statement and echoed in a letter he sent to Vilsack.
Coburn to USDA: Halt wine tastings, focus on food safety | The Daily Caller

This, combined with the letter to the rural ag dept. telling them to make sure not to lessen the impact of the cuts, and the cancellation of WH tours that are given by volunteers show what so many of us have realized all along. Obama is a petty president who is only concerned about himself and furthering his agenda. He could care less about spending cuts- he would prefer to threaten people about the food supply rather than make a cut to wine tasting conferences.

You might know that I can not stand either of the the pathetic parties but Coburn is one of the good guys. I wonder what keeps him going? he keeps out pointing out waste and gvt duplication of programs and is ignored. Just like this will be ignored and those USDA employees will be getting drunk on wine on the tax payer dime.
if I was him I would just give it up, DC is a cess pool and he would have to have something better to do then be ignored.

They already cut 1000 poultry inspectors last April. No one seemed outraged at that.

So who here was so completely ignorant of the sequester as to believe that the cuts it generated were going to make sense?

Maybe the USDA could cut back on it's SNAP advertising in Mexico.
I mean..Mexican citizens don't qualify for SNAP so there's no reason the USDA needs to run commercials down there on Mexican TV..right ? That's $3 million right there.

And even with inspections..look how many recalls we have for e coli and salmonella and listeria in our food.

Food recalls hit a 2 year high in 4Q2012.
And that's with inspections. These guys aren't quite doing their jobs to begin with.

conservatives continue to demonstrate they don't believe their own bs about government spending.

Every popular government function that gets cut, conservative will say "we didn't mean for that program to get cut".

LOL.

Same thing is multiple threads now. conservatives whining about cuts. LOL

So you think they are cutting the right services ?
Keep the advertising in Mexico, keep the conventions but cut the inspectors ?
The left is happy with this ?

Have you not been paying attention to the debate over this sequestration?

The whole point was that sequestration was going to cut all kinds of things with a meat cleaver. Are you that..... never mind.
