Personally I don't want China to fail but I don't want it's economy to pass ours, unfortunately with the amount of people they have in their country and the resources, they are destined to pass us. I can only wonder how China will do on te global front, will it help continets like Africa become more prosperous rather than only exploiting them, will it eventually pick up the actual social aspect of socialism, will it have minimum wage increases, and etc. I don't really think China passing our GDP will damage us though, our economy is still bonded to those of the EU (long as it doesnt fail), Japan, Australia, Cananda, South Korea, and etc and China's is only linked to a few countries mostly of those that don't have the wealth of our allies.

Anyways, what do you think? I think we have to accept that they will pass us but we're in no position at the moment to try to challenge them as the USSR did us, or we'll indeed collaspe as the USSR did

SN: when I say Challenge, I mean weapons races, space races, proxy wars, and etc. We need to challenge them technologically though but in a positive way that could benefit the world.

China has probably already passed our economy in raw terms. In the next 20-30 years, China will be the technological and military supreme power of the world. And China has been good to Africa, but Chinese care about Chinese, not Africans. There is exploitation but also wealth coming into Africa from China.

Uh; word is China's population will start dropping soon because of its "1 child per family" rule. That rule's been around for over 30 years now and China's pop IS getting old. Look at Japan: it hit a recession, what, 20 years ago, and is still having problems in 2013. Japan's pop is dropping off because they don't make enough babies and there's NO law in Japan saying they can't have large families.

the same is true in Europe and even here in the US. Neither places are reproducing at even bare replacement rate. I'll be long dead when it happens, as will my children, but my grandchildren may live to see the beginnings of precipitous drops in the populations of the US, Europe, China, Russia, and more.

I almost wish I could live long enough to see.....

I thought countries such as China really didn't care if their population becomes older, they'll work for life as contributing members of their economy. It's true, we need to repopulate a bit faster but at the sametime here in the Western World the finances simply aren't here. At 21 years old, I'm not too certain of my future; I'm in school for Political Science but the technological advantages being made in the world will eventually have a lot more people than we could ever imagine out of work. Are we ready for this automated society? No one (including our governments) are asking this question and it's going to slap us all (US, China, Russia, etc) in the face when it happens.

A world that has rendered the market driven economy obsolete, were automation and technical advancement generate huge amounts of goods and services that can simply given away to any one who needs them. A world were prices, wages and money become a thing of the past. A world where you work like an artist or scientist not because you need to but because you like doing art or science. A world were we work as a team or one happy collective! In the mid 19th Century a man called Marx studied what might come after Capitalism had run its cource and had driven technology to its end point.

I want China to become a free country that respects freedom and human rights. So I don't want China to fail but I wouldn't mind seeing the current Chinese government fail.

I do not want China to fail but they need to have open and free reciprocal trade. They have been dumping products in the US that do not reflect their true costs propped up by their nontransparent fiscal and economic policy.

The 60 Minute segment on Chinese Ghost Cities this past Sunday is a perfect example of how dangerous their secretive economic policy is and the dangers it poses not only for their own country's future but the rest of the world as well should they implode.

I don't want anyone or any nation to fail. With economic success comes demands for liberty. With destitution comes desperation (see North Korea).

Well stated,

There is nothing wrong with competition- it makes one strive higher.
