I work in a non-union shop. If I show up for work and there is nothing to do I get paid for 4 hours.
And i didn't need to pay a union rep to do it for me either.
I win.
P.S. If your CEO made 4 million for doing nothing then I suggest you get another job. The company is obviously wasting it's resources. Which mean it will go out of business.
I worked my butt off but I got paid fairly. Thanks to the IBEW.
I think it's sad when I talk to scabs that are making less than half of what I make with no benefits or retirement. My pension will be higher than their wages. And our company pays out huge dividends and huge dough to their execs and gives the customers a fair price.
But you guys just keep on ripping unions and attacking the middle class lifestyle of America. Soon enough you'll be living in trailer houses trying to make ends meet which is apparently what many of you want.
I've tried hiring guys from the local IBEW 3 times in 2012 to run a simple 3,000' of EMT in our warehouse in a union town I might as well have hired some illegals from the parking lot of Home Depot.
We ended up sending them home and bringing in some in house guys to do it right and clean up their mess. Of course the crew boss tried to come over and strong arm his way around threatening to "shut us down" but like most blowhard union morons we turned him away and told him to pound sand.
It's actually SOP in most non-union shops. If there is no work to do (say the power goes out 10 minutes into the shift) all employees get paid for 4 hours work. One place I worked it was 5.
By the way, my job would not be union even if I were in a union shop. All this talk about jealousy on my part is nonsense.
Of course they are. If you could pay a worker $5 an hour for a 10 hour plus day instead of paying a worker $10 for an eight hour day...wouldn't you do that. Don't lie, yes you would. A little person by themselves has a hard time standing up for themselves when they feel taken advantage of in the workplace. But numbers are power and that is why unions were formed. And yes, there is still a need for unions today.
Nonsense.
No employer in this country is required to pay anyone more than minimum wage. Yet, 98% of jobs pay more. How do explain that if employers will only pay the bare minimum as you believe?
And from 1865-1890 manufacturing wages in the U.S rose 50% and another 34% from 1891-1914. Inflation adjusted. less than 3% of workers were union and unions had no legal wages. there were also very few workplace laws "protecting" workers.
And millions of unionized workers were leaving Europe for non-union America.
All according to U.S. census data.
Competition for labor puts upward pressure on wages. not unions.
unio fight for temself and could careless about the little guy. One only has to lok at last autop union contracts . They keep everything and screwed the new hires to come. Its like the so called loyalty of the mob; its a myth and its all about them.

You think unions are the big bad wolf. In reality, unions were formed by us...everyday people...the middle class. We are the unions and we take care of our own.
