it also sounds to me like you would rather have the Chavistas abolish education.

Not all educated people leave the county, if they did then why do so many people with degrees choose to stay on their own soil?

you really have put forward a pathetic argument.
The fact remains is that Chavez looked to Cuba as an ideal, but Cuba is heading in the opposite direction of where they once were. Just like the US model of unfettered capitalism (early 1900's in particular) is widely acknowledged as a terrible thing.

Do you know why Cuba has 2 currencies?

I said, "good luck with that".

Certainly if one hasn't bathed for a year , good will come once they dip their toe into the water. As they keep walking even more good will come. Then at some point, if they keep walking, they will drown. And so is the transition from a foreign merchant run state to a populist socialist one.

Yeah, and even the Cubans have a name for the political insiders that have the jobs that come with all the "extra perks" and allow them to make extra CUC's on the side. Pesces Gordos or Grandes....

When you have a doctor that makes 90% of their annual income by moonlighting as a cab driver for tourists....you have some serious misallocation of human potential going on.

Venezuela has been pulling the money out in terms of oil but not reinvesting in development. This is a big big economic problem for them.

Venezuela Crude Oil Production by Year (Thousand Barrels per Day)

When your main source of revenue is oil and you've slid from 3.2million barrels a day to 2.2mil it's tough to maintain the govt programs.

They have huge reserves, they just need to invest to extract it....which is also going to cut into the money left over to pay for the programs.

Basically, whomever succeeds Chavez is going to have to deal with a big economic hangover and might be blamed for the bubble popping on his watch.

And the problem is monopoly, not business nor government. Here is a case of a government vs a private monopoly.

Municipal Broadband Networks Bridge the Digital Divide as Telecom Industry Tries to Block Them | Democracy Now!
Many communities have responded to this digital divide by creating their own municipal broadband networks as an alternative to the slow services offered by cable and telephone companies in order to gain equal access to education, healthcare and even jobs. One example of success is Thomasville, Georgia, which has been connecting people for more than a decade. But these efforts could soon be blocked. Some 19 states have passed laws to stop these communities from making such investments, and Georgia could be next.

"The Empire Lobbies Back: How National Cable and DSL Companies Banned the Competition in North Carolina." C
If the conservatives continue to conflate the problem of government without identifying the true problem , the seed of monopoly within it, why would I ever listen to them even as liberals give me no alternative? That is to say politically, I have no alternative between two dim wits.

Ever wondered why the Conservatives hate Chavez so much??

These are the reasons why (and there are plenty more - just wait!)

How does a public servant like Chavez amass a $2 billion personal fortune?
