The Internet Tax Freedom Act comes up for renewal in 2014.
It was last extended in 2007 for 7 years.
You have a government desperate for revenue sources.
Which has what to do with the opening post? And who has said we should let it expire and do nothing about it? Democrats oppose a national sales tax, Republicans want one. Whose more likely under that context to let it expire?

Who said anything about letting it expire ?
Next year when it comes up for renewal would be the perfect time to "tweek" it.
And who knows where the Fed will be financially next year ?
More recently, a Berkeley City Councilman Gordon Wozniak suggested that taxing email might be one way to raise money for the cash-strapped U.S. Postal Service.

So, another "what if" statement with no basis in factual reality. What if aliens show up tomorrow and fix everything? What if Obama has the white house push NASA to develop a new energy source that is cheap and free?

What if a unicorn farts and fixes everything?
Gee, refuse to even consider the possibility of it ?
I'll just leave it open and see what Congress does as the year progresses.
I'm not that quick to dismiss possibilities of new government revenue as these folks in DC are desperate for revenue.
The future is only filled with "what ifs" and only time will tell if it comes to fruition.
It was a single councilman by the name of Gordon Wozniak in Berkeley, CA. Link here. Nothing in the article states whether or not Mr. Wozniak is left-wing or right-wing, though.
Now, the "proposal" can never go anywhere because, according to the article, the Internet Tax Freedom Act would stand in their way.
You forgot to mention the fact that neither cities nor States have the authority to tax the US Postal Service.
That's why a book of stamps that costs $7.20 costs $7.20 and not $7.20 plus sales tax.
As someone else pointed out, it's Berkley.
Everything in Berkley is Left-of-Center.....I think it's something in the water.
It's quite disheartening, actually. Wozniak is a future representative or senator from California...he'll be in the House or the Senate doing the same stupid things he is on city council.

Yes, we've been through this before.
Governments will tax anything that smells like a tax.
The States smelled the pre-paid hospitalization plans, and they smelled like insurance which can be taxed and licensed, and that's what led the American Hospital Association to lobby for "enabling laws" which messed up your whole health care system.
My guess is when the Internet Tax Freedom Act comes up for renewal, it will quietly be allowed to die.
Just like the left. Tax what works to support what does not.
The only reason why people want to save the post office is to save jobs...kinda like how the right wingers use the military and defense budget as a jobs program. Both sides are addicted to certain job creating programs.
The real question is whether subsidizing useless jobs (because we have NO use for the post office...we have emails and UPS/OnTrac/DHL/FedEx) is a valuable practice for a country like ours. Does creating fake jobs hurt or help an economy, that's the real question here. On one hand, by creating fake jobs you also create real ones because those employees with fake jobs still spend real money and still contribute to the economy more than they would without employment. On the other hand, would the money saved in taxes and general government waste be better spent if not forced into these government jobs programs?
